Started third year a couple of weeks ago - finals are hard, but compared to last year, the workload is better if anything ! Have shut myself in the library until I get this essay planned, a lot more scientific literature, means a lot more time spent reading and planning for an essay 😊

Procrastinating? Don’t stress!

We all get to that point where we realize we’ve not done anything for the day. I’m here to remind you do not stess about procrastination.Feeling anxious and getting down on yourself for not working doesn’t help. Here are some tips:

If it’s late, and you are tired, work for 10-15 minutes.

This will allow you to get things sorted for a fresh start tomorrow, and you can go to bed feeling accomplished, without the stressful butterflies that often accompany procrastination.

If you’ve really gotten behind, make a prioritized to do list.

If you find yourself procrastinating often and you reach a point of panic where it feels like EVERYTHING needs to be done right away, the best thing you can do is organize your tasks. I find the Eisenhower decision matrix (google it, it’s amazing) really great for situations like these.

Don’t know where to start on a project or paper? Ask for help!

Anxiety can make us feel stressed and unwilling to begin an assignment. I cannot stress this enough! Your professors and teachers WANT to help you! If you have a paper due and you are feeling overwhelmed, don’t know where to start your research, etc., remember, this is their field of expertise.

Work on self discipline

This is absolutely the most crucial step to stopping the procrastination cycle. There are lots of posts that tell you to motivate yourself by offering rewards for completing tasks but all of that is meaningless if you don’t have the discipline to stick to it. Start small. When you are about to do something anyways, be concious of it, be concious of the fact that you have decided to do a task, and are doing it. Once it’s done, take note of how you feel. Do you feel relaxed? Relieved? Proud of yourself? (you should feel proud you are amazing) Accomplished? Then when you have a task you don’t want to do, just say to yourself “I am going to do _____ for _____ amount of time, or until it is done.” It takes a lot of work to get into the habit of self discipline but it is really the best reward in the long run.

My stress levels: 400%

I’m literally so sleep deprived right now and the only joy in my day is eating lunch and dinner, I have literally stayed in the chemistry building from 9am to 6pm everyday this week IVE HAD ENOUGH

Anyways today was the last day for the senior undergrad researcher in my lab :// she’s going to MED SCHOOL though!!! and she was a biochem major! I hope i can be like her in a couple years omg

29.04.16 A longer Friday than usual since I had to go in for a ‘catch up’ day. It was super productive though - clearly more independent than I think. Tomorrow is my first day of work! More excited than anything 😊
