Me: Okay, I need to be fluent on esperanto in 2 weeks, maybe on this vacations I could watch some french movies to practice, and I want to study more russian
Me after a single post on Tumblr.com: I wanna start bengali
I want to study medicine all day and all night on an oakwood desk by a large window overlooking lush green mountains and fir trees. Where light filters through the clouds, illuminating the valley in the distance. It turns the windowpanes golden and bring out the red in my hair, as I watch dust particles dance in its wake.
it takes years to develop your craft. do not romanticize the idea of an âovernight successâ. be a student. grow organically. get really good. hate your work. start over. find new ways to express the same ideas. the student becomes the master. your time will come.
Reading this today was so important for me.
I have been feeling really overwhelmed lately with not being able to reach the final, perfect image of myself that I have. And more importantly I miss doing things for myself : spending hours doing art, learning useless information, reading books and DIY-ing at weekends, all without being pressured to be aesthetic or quick or completing a virtual checklist or for the gram.
I felt so free and so myself.
I only just started to follow you but i wanted to check in on you after reading your post. I absolutely know where you're coming from about the pandemic being hard on our mental health lately. i think that we just have to take things day by day nowadays; i know things don't look like it's going to be bright again anytime soon, but we (you and I) have to hang on. i hope you find something that will anchor you, and if you need someone to talk to you, i'd love to lend an ear.
thankyou so much for this. I really appreciate it. Itâs still very hard. Idk where this anxiety is coming from but no matter what I do, it just remains at a constant raised level, all the time. I did take a session from my therapist recently and she suggested a few things to try. I am doing them right now. They are helping to some extent and some other times I take medicines to lower my heart rate.
Iâll try the one day at a time approach. I think it will be effective, most of the time I get so stressed out thinking about outcomes that havenât even occured yet and get so tired comparing myself of everyone else.
p.s. Sorry for replying so late

Day 43 of 100
After more than a month of studying âhead and neckâ module plus some days of binge watching k-dramas I think Iâm finally in the last week of studying this module. I am seriously so tired of devouring tonnes of anatomy for thus module.
Next module to study for is âGastrointestinal and Liverâ, Iâve decided to try typing notes on notion for this module because I want a single place where I can store all the notes for all subjects so I can review them quickly before finals in December 2020.
Gave an online exam/test today for âNeurosciencesâ module. It was tough because I had forgotten or not gone through alot of info being tested. I think Iâll probably get around 70/100. Iâm fine with that since these tests donot have much weightage in final gpa of the year.

Day 27/100
Stuck on embryology for the longest time. First read the textbook, then realised I couldnât repeat it to myself, watched a couple of youtube videos on it and now annotating a short high-yield book which doesnât have enough space. So kinda feeling anxious but itâs okay.
Also putting it out there if anyone can relate: warning:has description of my anxiety
This pandemic has been really hard on my mental health. I did seek help from a therapist, but now I just canât face the anxiety of taking another session. I wish the sessions were not on videocall. I know itâs not good but I may have ignored her messages and not attend the second session. Regretting it now. Just as night falls, I feel a lump come up in my throat. Constricting it. I feel like thereâs a boulder on my chest. My body gets really weak and my soles burn. I canât focus on anything and just want to cry my heart out. Tried that too , didnât work. Iâm all okay in the morning, in daylight. My anxiety then triggers some other actions and old haunting thoughts , werid scenarios and I just get caught in a spiral that keeps on constricting. This happens. And at other times I am completely fine, super productive, focused and euphoric maybe. The chubby bubbly me, smelling of sunshine.

Day 22/100
I took the first (out of four) webinar sessions I signed up for. ltâs called a beginnerâs guide to research. It was a really informative and engaging. Enjoyed it alot and made notes alongside. I hope this actually pushes me to get started with my own medical research. I have been trying to brainstorm ideas for so long now.
One really good thing the speaker said was that we need to find our niche, find an area that weâre okay with reading tonnes of literature on; then observe and find a gap in the knowledge, to find the hypothesis and get started.
There was alot of good info on accessing the relevant literature via search engines and databases, and narrowing down the available results.
I have been trying to meditate / get into the habit of daily meditation like a monk. But idk why itâs getting a bit difficult right now. Iâve meditated twice only in the past 22 days. For 15 min each. Iâm hoping to get a quick session in before going to bed tonight.

Tips for Learning a Foreign Language:
Learning Vocabulary:
What vocabulary should I be learning?
There are hundreds of thousands of words in every language, and the large majority of them wonât be immediately relevant to you when youâre starting out.Typically, the most frequent 3000 words make up 90% of the language that a native speaker uses on any given day. Instead try to learn the most useful words in a language, and then expand outwards from there according to your needs and interests.
Choose the words you want/need to learn.
Relate them to what you already know.
Review them until theyâve reached your long-term memory.
Record them so learning is never lost.
Use them in meaningful human conversation and communication.
How should I record the vocabulary?
Learners need to see and/or hear a new word of phrase 6 to 17 times before they really know a piece of vocabulary.
Keep a careful record of new vocabulary.
Record the vocabulary in a way that is helpful to you and will ensure that you will practice the vocabulary, e.g. flashcards.
Vocabulary should be organised so that words are easier to find, e.g. alphabetically or according to topic.
Ideally when noting vocabulary you should write down not only the meaning, but the grammatical class, and example in a sentence, and where needed information about structure.
How should I practice using the vocabulary?
Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check - Use this method for learning and remembering vocabulary. This method is really good for learning spellings.
Make flashcards. Write the vocabulary on the front with the definition and examples on the back.
Draw mind maps or make visual representations of the new vocabulary groups.
Stick labels or post it notes on corresponding objects, e.g when learning kitchen vocabulary you could label items in your house.
How often should I be practising vocabulary?
A valuable technique is âthe principle of expanding rehearsalâ. This means reviewing vocabulary shortly after first learning them then at increasingly longer intervals.
Ideally, words should be reviewed:
5-10 minutes later
24 hours later
One week later
1-2 months later
6 months later
Knowing a vocabulary item well enough to use it productively means knowing:
Its written and spoken forms (spelling and pronunciation).
Its grammatical category and other grammatical information
Related words and word families, e.g. adjective, adverb, verb, noun.
Common collocations (Words that often come before or after it).
Receptive Skills: Listening and Reading
Reading is probably one of the most effective ways of building vocabulary knowledge.
Listening is also important because it occupies a big chunk of the time we spend communicating.
Tips for reading in a foreign language:
Start basic and small. Childrenâs books are great practice for beginners. Donât try to dive into a novel or newspaper too early, since it can be discouraging and time consuming if you have to look up every other word.
Read things youâve already read in your native language. The fact that you at least know the gist of the story will help you to pick up context clues, learn new vocabulary and grammatical constructions.
Read books with their accompanying audio books. Reading a book while listening to the accompanying audio will improve your âear trainingâ. It will also help you to learn the pronunciation of words.
Tips for listening in a foreign language:
Watch films in your target language.
Read a book while also listening along to the audio book version.
Listen to the radio in your target language.
Watch videos online in your target language.
Activities to do to show that youâve understood what youâve been listening to:
Try drawing a picture of what was said.
Ask yourself some questions about it and try to answer them.
Provide a summary of what was said.
Suggest what might come next in the âstory.â
Translate what was said into another language.
âTalk backâ to the speaker to engage in imaginary conversation.
Productive Skills: Speaking and Writing
Tips for speaking in a foreign language:
If you can, try to speak the language every day either out loud to yourself or chat to another native speaker whether it is a colleague, a friend, a tutor or a language exchange partner.Â
Write a list of topics and think about what you could say about each one. First you could write out your thoughts and then read them out loud. Look up the words you donât know. You could also come up with questions at the end to ask someone else.
A really good way to improve your own speaking is to listen to how native speakers talk and imitate their accent, their rhythm of speech and tone of voice. Watch how their lips move and pay attention to the stressed sounds. You could watch interviews on YouTube or online news websites and pause every so often to copy what you have just heard. You could even sing along to songs sung in the target language.
Walk around the house and describe what you say. Say what you like or dislike about the room or the furniture or the decor. Talk about what you want to change. This gets you to practise every day vocabulary.
Tips for writing in a foreign language:
Practice writing in your target language. Keep it simple to start with. Beginner vocabulary and grammar concepts are generally very descriptive and concrete.
Practice writing by hand. Here are some things you can write out by hand:
Diary entries
Shopping lists
Reminders
What could I write about?
Write about your day, an interesting event, how youâre feeling, or what youâre thinking.
Make up a conversation between two people.Â
Write a letter to a friend, yourself, or a celebrity. You donât need to send it; just writing it will be helpful.
Translate a text youâve written in your native language into your foreign language.
Write a review or a book youâve recently read or a film youâve recently watched.
Write Facebook statuses, Tweets or Tumblr posts (whether you post them or not will be up to you).
Write a short story or poem.
Writing is one of the hardest things to do well as a non-native speaker of a language, because thereâs no room to hide.Â
There are lots of ways to improve your writing ability, but they can be essentially boiled down to three key components:
Read a lot
Write a lot
Get your writing corrected
Pro-tip: type your tumblr posts on Notes app. Not on tumblr. I repeat not on tumblr. Because if God forbid your network connection were drop in the middle of it being uploaded, youâll end up losing it all. Now excuse me as I go cry in the corner.

Day 16/100
Dr.Najeeb teaching Retina Histology ft. Mango Shake ^_^
He speaks so slowly I have to speed up the video to 2x to save time and my precious sanity.
Check out how pretty the sky looked this morning.
My studyspace is a mess lately. Needs revamp. But my routine needs more of that, so prioritising that for now and not the aesthetics ;)

Day15/100
~Online classes I attended (but not heard a single word ) = 3 out of 3.
~Practiced Hangeul (korean) vowel sound instead and took the online class of consonants. Iâm doing this First Step Korean online course, by Yonsei University , on Coursera. So far it has been great. Iâm learning slowing but surely. Given my background of Urdu, it is pretty easy for me to pronounce the Korean alphabets. Also the classes are pretty consise and easy, so thatâs a plus point too.
~Watched videos and made notes for Uveal Tract Histology. Iâm still very far behind in my to-watch video lectures for Head and Neck Anatomy. Exhausted. But getting there, In shaa Allah. The goal is to get them done by 30 June.
P.s. Iâm on an instagram detox right now to boost my productivity. Also I felt like insta was making my life miserable and is actually pretty toxic for an app, in the long run, whether you handle a public account or just watch public accounts.
100 Days of Productivity
(yet again)
SHIFTING YOUR MINDSET TO ACHIEVE LONGTERM GOALS
On June 01 2020 I started the challenge; after trying and failing the first time when I did it in September 2019. At that time I wanted to do it. Right now, I âneedâ to do it.
This time around I have changed my mindset around the concept of productivity:
* The actual goal is to have no zero days. Just 15 min of pure productivity is enough to call it Non-Zero!
* But since 100 days is like around 1/3 of the (academic) year, itâs a pretty long time. So I have given myself, for the sake of my mental health, some appointed zero days during this period.
* The zero days with be compensated for by pushing a bit harder the next day.
* This is not a challenge where I win or lose. I win at the end no matter what. This is more of a productive lifestyle shift and coming to terms with the new normal amidst the pandemic. âChallengingâ myself only makes me more accountable at the end of the day.
* âIt takes 21 days to build a habit& 90 days to build a lifestyleâ 21/90 Rule.
* I am tracking a bunch of habits. In the first week less than half of them were ticked. The goal is to have them all ticked by the last week.
* Productivity for me= incorporating half or more of the habits in my daily routine.
* âSelf control is empathy with your future selfâ .
Challenge ends September 09 2020. Better lifestyle continues on!
Getting some math done at my boyfriendâs campus today. My own is straight up depressing compared to this :)) also, my feed has somehow pretty much stopped having studyblr things in it??? blogs with studyblr etc content, make me find u
Had to set up a temporary study space on the guestâs dining table because I have actual guests hanging around in my bedroom. I just absolutely hate having to change my study space and this is one of the reasons why I canât study in a library. But I want to change that about me and come out of my comfort zone to be more efficient. Taking baby steps rn!

Thereâs a blind person who works in my university and everyday, as an unspoken rule, any one student would guide him around in the campus. Like if anyone sees him exiting a building they immediately just go and help him to his next destination without him saying a word. đť
Sitting in Pathology Class with alot of gangrenous body parts around and what not.
I canât remember first and second line of drugs for TB. And now Iâm hiding from the doctor. He wonât let me mark the attendance if I donât answer in class.
Plus check out the view from the window I just discovered!
