“It’s easy, in simple terms, to provide a capsule definition of the Curry persona: witty, knowing, streetwise, elegant and louche, with a pronounced leaning toward what might be called the dark fantastic. Perhaps inevitably, Curry has played his fair share of villains, admitting that the demand somewhat exceeds his appetite for such characters. Frank N Furter was a sort of joke villain, riveting because of the way he seemed to wallow in concentrated pantomime evil; there have been several Satanic young men for Howard Schumann – in ‘Verite’, 'Rock Follies of 77’ and 'Video Stars’; he played a malevolent and intrusive stranger in Dennis Potter‘s TV play, 'Schmoedipus’, and says that he would dearly love to work with Potter again. In a strange but apt footnote to his career, he was offered the daemonic central character in Potter’s 'Brimstone And Treacle’ but wasn’t available for either The TV or stage productions.
