Thoughts on THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL
The whole album has a retro sort of vibe with very modern lyrics. It's not Taylor's most lyrical of albums, which are usually my favourites, but they're evocative and witty if a little flat at times with slang that is already rather outdated and millennial (says I, a millennial)
The whole album certainly lives up to the name, it has a strong story which is very different to TTPD which felt more like a collection than an album, this is definitely an album.
It took me a few songs to get the vibes of the album instrumentally and get used to it but I enjoy it on subsequent listens, very... Late 70s, 80s vibes? (fittingly like George Micheal era) but also mildly disco? funky? in some songs and very Sabrina Carpenter in a couple - notably Wood and, of course, the titular final track with her feature.
Opalite and Father Figure are giving Christmas vibes rather heavily to me and I can't entirely explain why except they twinkle. And the oh-oh-ohs in Opalite.
