he's not usually caught off-guard like this. usually, he has cole as a buffer for the media that stick around kettle springs, ever-hungry for glimpses of the three, their lives always good for clicks. easy money, rust thinks bitterly, tensing as he looks her over, eyes darting around to see if she's alone - his hand subtly shifting, inching towards the shoulder holster concealed in his jacket. "i don't do street interviews," he says sharply, head jerking, regretting his decision to walk home from the construction site. rust wonders if he should call cole - but he doesn't want to bother him. doesn't want to seem like he can't handle a lone reporter with a camera. "you can call my boyfriend's publicist, instead of ambushing me on the fucking street."

her hands raise in some sort of quick surrender that she hopes conveys: i'm not here to hurt you like the rest. but she knows it may not come off that way. knows it may read more like a sarcastic gesture. but she means it. she knows how money hungry the rest of the journalists have been. how horrid they've treated these two and this town just to get a story. though she's been known to do whatever she possibly can to get a story . . . forcing it out of these two has never crossed her mind. she knows she needs to tread carefully. she feels a deep need to protect the both of them. somehow. " listen . . . listen, i'm not here to do what all those other journalists have done. they've been horrible. i've seen the articles and the newscasts and all that shit. but i just . . . i really just want to sit down with you and hear your story. not whatever shit they've twisted in ten different directions. i want to know you and your boyfriend. even if it never makes it to press . . . it's only fair that you get to tell your side. "

hi beans ! too much has been happening at work so i've been a bit absent. but i'm hoping things will calm down ASAP so i can be more present on here and @hopeforged
