* WASTELAND / BABY !

sloane   wasn’t   usually   fond   of   sharing.   growing  up  with  an  older  brother,   her  mother  used  to  tease  that  sloane  was  born  to  be  an  only  child,   but  then  again,   her  mother  used  to  tease  her  about  a  lot  of  things.   brows  furrow  together  for  a  moment  as  she  pushes  the  thoughts  away,   snapping  back  to  reality.   the  air  was  cold,   and  she  could  hear  the  wind  whipping  loudly  outside  of  the  room  they’d  barricaded  themselves  into.   she  couldn’t  see  outside,  but  if  she  had  to  guess,   she  wouldn’t  be  surprised  if  it  had  started  snowing.  winter  was  well  on  its  way.   if  they  didn’t  find  somewhere  safer  and  warmer  to  hunker  down  in  soon,   they  were  screwed.

the blanket she was offering him would do very little to help but he wasn't going to be an asshole. they could make it work. they could survive the coldest hours of the night. he shifted closer to her and allowed her to curl it around his shoulder. he slid his arm closest to her to curl it around her middle to pull her in further. they needed body heat as much as the blanket heat.

sloane   doesn’t   need   to   be   told   twice.   quickly,  she  moves  to  grip  the  other  end  of  desk,   helping  ryland  slide  it  over  to  the  door.   next,   a  fairly  hefty  arm  chair,   lifted  and  placed  on  top  of  the  desk.   once  they  were  done,   sloane  brushed  her  hands  off  on  her  pants  and  took  a  good  look  around  the  room,   taking  note  of  the  window  and  the  fire  escape.   they  weren't  in  any  immediate  danger,   but  it  was  good  to  know  they  had  another  way  out  if  someone or something  started  to  push  their  way  in.

rocky   had   always   been   stubborn  —    adrian  knew  that  better  than  anyone.   she  also  knew  when  he  was  hitting  his  breaking  point,  and  right  now,   he  was  getting  pretty  damn  close.   maybe  she  was  right  —   no.  she  was  always  right.   he  was  no  good  to  either  of  them  in  this  state.  he  sighs  defeatedly.   

the  words  nearly  stop  her  in  her  tracks,  and  she  hovers  for  a  moment  with  her  hand  on  the  door. hesitating.   a  small  smirk  tugs  at  the  corner  of  her  mouth.    “ wait,    did  you  just  say  you  care  about  me ?   can  i  get  that  in  writing ?  “
