Rare and Unique Near Eastern Stone Crouching Feline, 3rd ML BC
Made of steatite and possibly white limestone. Although the precise purpose of this object remains unknown, it is likely, as with many other Near Eastern figures of animals, that it was an ex-voto dedicated to a shrine and belonging, perhaps, to a wider sculptural group composed of several elements.
Despite the rich iconography of felines in Near Eastern art, no strict parallels are currently known for this piece.
