klein's blue monochrome (which IS modern, but had a pretty big impact on contemporary art) is brought up a lot in this argument. klein spent YEARS developing international klein blue (ikb). he wanted to capture the pigment in a way nobody else had before. ikb is made to make the viewer admire the color. the open color is FREEDOM!!!!!!

one that i cannot STAND insults to is just anything by felix gonzalez-torres. he is my favorite artist. his works are a reflection of the AIDS epidemic and how america was at the time. my personal favorite, perfect lovers, is often disregarded as just two clocks. it is a beautiful piece on the passage of time, protesting queer censorship, and the looming fear of death, all while immortalizing the love he shared with Ross, his partner. for those who are unaware, perfect lovers is a work depicted as two identical clocks, hung side-by-side, that slowly fall out of sync as time passes. it was originally drawn by gonzalez-torres in a letter to ross, where he wrote the beautiful quote:

"dont be afraid of the clocks, they are our time, and time has been so generous to us. we imprinted time with the sweet taste of victory. we conquered fate by meeting at a certain time in a certain space. we are a product of the time, therefore we give back credit where it is due: time. we are synchronized, now and forever. i love you."

im not going to entirely dismiss the other side, though. damien hurst, for example, killed thousands of animals and put them on display as "art". in my opinion, art that requires you to harm any living being shouldnt be called art. in addition, many contemporary artists really are just looking for cash. however, that just isnt an excuse to disregard all contemporary art, imo.

furthermore, lacking context really shouldn't be an argument here. art has always been best understood within the context in which it is created.

this is such an odd niche and i fear i will be the only person to ever think about this. but i need to get my thoughts out there. note: these arent really related to anything specific they do in canon. its based on the characters themselves

BRUCE - no stand. sorry i love bruce so i just cant give him one. to me, his lack of powers is ESSENTIAL to his character. he is a person heavily rooted in reality, and ignoring that would butcher his character imo

DICK - "Friday I'm In Love"

A close-range stand that can apply weightlessness to anything it comes to contact with, including himself. similar to that one guy from part 6 that i am too tired to remember the name of rn, but it applies to specific objects rather than a radius around the user.

this of course pays homage to the flying graysons and his acrobatics. i chose the name going through an old spotify playlist and decided it fit him. hes a lover yk ❤️❤️ not sure what it would look like tho tbh. maybe ill expand a bit on this one day. also ref to The Cure song of the same title

(unrelated but the playlist i was looking at genuinely had abnormality dancin' girl on there like 300 times??? scrolling through made my phone lag)

JASON - "Goes Around Comes Around"

Rule-based stand! 🥳 His rule is that he can apply 'Karma' to any specific thing he chooses (including himself). any damage inflicted upon the subject is reflected upon the attacker, stronger than what was inflicted. not sure how to word it idk im tired.

i love rule-based stands so much. like. jailhouse lock is the coolest thing ever to me. and i need jason to be that cool. i was thinking that for its appearance, it would be a shadow figure of a little boy. wispy on the edges, and entirely black. im not very good at character designs ngl guys 😭.. ref to Round and Round by RATT

Again. Sorry. 😭😭 I LOVE CASS I SWEAR I JUST CANT THINK OF ANYTHING. i dont want to discredit any of the things they do on their own; if i did, everyone would have a stand. i think she would be AWARE of them, at least one some level, but she doesn't have one.

DUKE - "When I Had You"

long-range stand. he can influence the moods of anyone within his range; he can use it to calm people, anger them, etc. once it evolves, it is able to evoke memories (very useful in interrogations!)

DAMIAN - "The Cure"

wow haha i wonder what that's a ref to. His stand is close-range, and its ability is to rapidly progress the course of anything it acts upon. aging, healing, anything. he mainly uses it to heal.

damian is so special to me. i love his character development. if you havent read the Boy Wonder go read it NOW. hes my sweet baby. i once saw fanart of him with a quote from the Quran that went along the lines of "Whoever kills a single soul.. it will be as though they have killed all of humanity; whoever saves a life, it will be as though they have saved all of humanity". i think it truly shows his character development.
