A Collection of DMing Notes

This is my (@m-vatia's) side blog, a spot for me to record my notes for a homebrewed D&D game I've begun prepping! A couple of my players follow my primary blog and bluesky account so this will be where I yap without spoiling things for half my table. (:

Some points of interest in the campaign:

Magic, and the life that comes from it, originates from a rotting god at the center of the world.

The Drow Empire came to power and fell centuries ago, the species believed to be extinct. Humans are on their way to meeting the same fate.

For several decades now, approximately every five years, a wave of small automatons ripples across the continent. While they themselves are nonviolent, they have become an omen of destruction, their presence often making way for what’s come to be known as the World Eater, a worm-like beast far greater in size than the dragons of myth that leaves a trail of destruction in its wake when it appears.

Bears do what's called caching, meaning they bury their kills to preserve and hide them from other predators and scavengers. The party could stumble across an owlbear (or just a normal bear, grizzlies don't need wild magic to be scary) defending their cache.

A small addition to this could be making the combat completely optional, inspired by the cougar encounter my coworkers and I had recently. Hearing a predator warn us and let us know it wanted us to leave before it had to fight us was terrifying lol

Found up and down the Black Coast, peryton are a common concern in the region, herds all too willing to pick off wandering travelers who stray too far from their own groups.
