We have two women - one a Black woman - and an Asian man, and the way they kind of immediately bond and how Hayward continuously singles out and insults them three is just so telling. He talks over Jimmy almost immediately, he insults Monica and her experiences, he ignores Darcy and asks who out of her and Monica are the “sassy best friend”. He’s a dick, yeah, and probably does this to a lot of people, but it’s just so telling when we see who he’s telling it to. 

And to just see how the three deal with it? When he directs the “sassy best friend” comment, it’s Jimmy who speaks up, not in a way that’s completely out there but he still tells him not to diminish his colleagues. Jimmy notices Darcy’s requests getting ignored and gets her the coffee, he’s trying to support the both of them whenever Hayward is being rude. He’s a bit of a quieter support (not that Jimmy is quiet, mind you) but he still punches first, he’s the first to respond to Hayward’s comments - he’s coming to their defense as best as he can. Monica is outspoken about what she doesn’t like, she’s willing to fight for what she believes is right and she doesn’t let Hayward get away with his shitty comments. When Darcy is being disrespected, Monica says Darcy - who she hadn’t even known until a few days earlier - is with her, she sticks up for those she cares about and she makes it known. And Darcy!! Sometimes Jimmy and Monica don’t want or can’t say anything against Hayward (something I think a lot of POCs can relate to) but you know who does? Darcy. Jimmy says he doesn’t like speaking ill of people, so she does, Monica and Jimmy leave but Darcy is firm about staying as much as she can, she uses that privilege to help the trio out as much as she possibly can.
