something self-indulgent i like to think about, is Steve entering his "I love my husband" era and fully and gleefully embracing his downbadism. like one day it finally sinks in that he doesn't have to act Chill about Bucky anymore (like he's ever acted Chill about Bucky in the first place), and he never. looks. back. he's in love with this man and he's done trying to rein in his feelings to protect everybody else's sensibilities. he'll race into Bucky's open arms and literally sweep him up off his feet and spin them around romcom style, and he'll kiss the breath out of him for good measure, in front of their friends, in front of strangers, of their royal allies - even, on occasion, in front of their foes, if the whim strikes. let them all witness how chronically Down Bad Steve is for his husband, they been knew all along anyway. he's traveling for whatever reason? well then he's gotta buy a little trinket to bring home to Bucky as a souvenir, and you can bet dollars to donuts he's gonna end up waxing poetic about all the shades of Bucky's eyes to the lucky vendor for the next 20 minutes. he knows how to say "gift" and "for my husband" in 27 languages, just in case. Bucky's lost count of all the times Steve's introduced him to someone - three adorable old ladies at the park, the cashier at the deli around the corner, the young bookstore clerk with a rainbow pin on his shirt, people met at the local farmers' market - only for the delighted stranger to say, "Is this your Bucky?", immediately followed by, "Steve's told me so much about you!". one thing Bucky's garnered from this experience, is the knowledge that even when he's out of Steve's sight, he's never really out of Steve's mind; and apparently, everybody in the five boroughs has been informed of that too. (apparently, everybody in the five boroughs knows him as Steve's Bucky; Bucky can't say that he minds that very badly. no, he can't say that at all.)
