We'll Always Save The Day

The sun was just starting to set, a gentle breeze was blowing, and Steven sat out on a secluded part of the beach. The temple could still be seen a little ways away from him, thought his focus was on the rhythmic ebb and flow of the waves at his feet.

It was a beautiful scene, though most of his attention was focused inward; so focused, in fact, that he jumped when a crab scuttled by him.

Steven had no idea if Peridot or Lapis even knew what had recently transpired. Had anyone thought to tell them? Between the kidnappings, the reveal of Aquamarine and Topaz, Steven and Lars getting taken to Homeworld and only Steven returning- He doubted it.

It seemed fitting, almost. The barn always had been a kind of retreat for him, a place separate from the base where most of the troubles of the Crystal Gems could be left behind.

And it was fun to run through the cornfields with Pumpkin.

And speak of the vegetable, nearly as soon as he’d warped in Pumpkin barked and leapt into his arms.

“Haha, hey Pumpkin! I was just thinking about you.” Steven laughed, hugging the veggie-dog close as he started toward the barn, “Anyone else here today? Or are we gonna end up playing tag for a few hours like that one time?”

A bark was his only answer.

“Good point,” Steven chuckled again, “It’s not polite to arrive at someone’s home unannounced.”

So-

“Zircon!”

Steven gasped, a sharp inhale that made his lungs burn. He may have only known the blue gem for a short while, but Steven’s heart had always been too big, at least according to some. And job or not, she had been working as his defense. 

And last time he saw this gem-

In the moments before and immediately succeeding Steven saying goodbye, there was so much Connie wanted to say. There she stood, knee-deep in saltwater, as her heart was ripped in an instant from her chest.

She wanted to scream ‘til her lungs burst - there was so much they hadn’t done yet, so many things she had left to say - but instead, she could do nothing but sit there, hopeless and lost.

Now he was back, though, and she could say all of that, and more! …Except, she couldn’t. For whatever reason, Connie found it impossible to eke out even one word.

“I…” No matter how much she tried, she couldn’t manage more than to sit there in awkward silence. It took all of her strength to will herself to do something - she leaned in and wrapped her arms tightly around the shorter boy without a word.

“I’m just glad to have you back.”

Steven sniffled again, his breath turning staccato as he fought back tears. He returned the hug immediately, arms wrapped tight around Connie as if she would be snatched away at any moment.

“I missed you so much.”

He sucked in a breath, shaking a little in her arms. “I’m glad you weren’t taken to Homeworld too. I couldn’t - if something happened to you-”

Finally, Steven had managed to get a moment alone with Connie. Of course, he understood that everyone had been worried about him when he was taken to Homeworld, and his dad and the Gems just wanted to know he was okay.

...But he just wanted to talk to Connie.

“H-hey...Connie? Are you...I mean...”

Steven sighed, wringing his hands together and staring forlorn down at the floor.

[[Do not. Assume. Relationships. You an OC? Then whomever I am playing has not met you. They are not in love with your OC. They are not friends with your OC. Unless they have met in canon, they have no pre-established relationship.

[[Normally fine. In some cases, like with Thorin, I come up with ways to interact with them! Don’t think I’ll be doing so on Steven, but I definitely don’t mind. 

[[With one caveat, anyway... I’ve actually had instances on both Stan and Starscream of people copying my portrayal. Headcanons, quirks, even copying my rules and about almost word for word. Yes, they’re the same character; but even my rp partners noticed the similarities. And with Starscream, my version was a very unique concept and execution.

[[Kind of, once. It was back when the Undertale rp sphere was still starting up. I was one of the two most popular Frisks at the time. There was a person publicly slandering any roleplayers who didn’t want to rp with their OC, telling people not to rp with them and to block them and such. That person, unsurprisingly, started getting mounds of anon hate. I made a post about the whole ordeal without naming any names, about how acting like that will get you blocked and reported by my group of friends at the very least - as well as anyone who is found to be sending anon hate.]]

[[The fact that I had this post entirely typed out and then accidentally hit the youtube shortcut and lost everything.]]

[[Not very highly. They’re bullying, and often either half or wholly fabricated. You’re only ever getting one side of the story, and the post is inciting hateful behaviour. It’s playground politics; telling everyone not to talk to/be friends with someone because ‘I say so and they are bad.’

Because, like it or not, we're not all balls of sunshine all the time. We can be pure salt when we want to be.
