“I understand your.....apprehension, about the Diamonds. I’m....I’m scared too.” It wasn’t an easy thing for Pearl to admit, but with just Lapis around, it felt a bit safer. After all, what was there to lose? It wasn’t like she was going to make Lapis doubt the cause more than she already did. 

“But rebellions are built on hope, and they thrive on hope. You have to....you have to hold on to what you believe in, no matter what. You have to for what’s worth protecting....”

“Who is worth protecting.....”  Did Lapis have someone like that? She knew they both cared immensely about Steven, but was that enough? He certainly was just as tied to this planet as his mother was, if not more so.

Everything since Steven came back home was... stressful. It felt like every turn left him with a new thing to worry himself sick about, and he genuinely thought Lapis was going to leave forever.

As... selfish as Steven felt he was, he was thankful, nestled in the barn next to Lapis as the television played softly in front of them. Steven didn’t realize how wonderful these moments really were until he thought about- and experienced- losing them.

He took a deep breath, taking the initiative to lean against the blue gem’s side. Part of him felt guilty for...keeping her here, but he couldn’t help his smile and the relief coursing through his veins.

“H-Hey, Lapis? I understand why you wanted to leave, but... I’m glad you decided to stay. I’m sorry about... everything. Just... yeah.”

He really wanted to talk to her, but felt almost awkward going about it. He never knew when things would hit a sensitive chord, or if he were saying the right things. But Lapis deserved an apology, just like the one he gave to Connie; both of them were hurt by his actions.

A blue woman was far from the strangest thing she’d seen that week, but it was still something new for Dr. Wong. Nonetheless, she invited the unusual woman into her office, and took a seat in her big brown chair before gesturing toward the adjacent sofa.

Peridot didn’t know if she was just looking too far in to it, but she could have sworn Lapis’ question had a double meaning to it. Had Lapis caught on to how she felt about Amethyst...? She’d thought she’d been doing well enough to hide her feelings, but it was starting to look like she couldn’t fool her roommate.
