the last few weeks had been rough, suffice to say. connie had become unpredictable since steven had left. the first time steven abandoned her and went to space didn’t go over that well either, but she was able to get over it decently fast, determined to protect beach city while he was gone to get his dad from space. 

this time things were different. steven had given himself upto home world, wherever that was, and it didn’t seem like he was coming back. mixed with both anger and depression, connie ended up missing school and just keeping to herself mostly. 

news that steven had safely returned however calmed priyanka a bit, hoping that her daughter might finally feel better again. she was at wits end trying to figure out how to cheer her up or keep her from feeling worse. connie had left to go see steven and priyanka expected her to return happier and feeling better. instead she returned seemingly looking worse, and well, with a lion. priyanka couldn’t afford an argument about the lion, not with connie’s behavior. she let it slide but said he had to stay in the backyard.

Finally, Steven had managed to get a moment alone with Connie. Of course, he understood that everyone had been worried about him when he was taken to Homeworld, and his dad and the Gems just wanted to know he was okay.

...But he just wanted to talk to Connie.

“H-hey...Connie? Are you...I mean...”

Steven sighed, wringing his hands together and staring forlorn down at the floor.

Connie's just a hardworking girl who wants to do right by her family & works hard EVERY day. Steven’s ‘royalty’ from across the sea who LOVES music & doesn’t know how to take anything seriously, so he was sent over to the town where Connie lives to learn how to live like a ‘commoner’ to get him to learn some life lessons

Lion hadn’t come back to the temple since he’d left with Connie, and it gave Steven the impression both of his friends were giving him.. well, the cold shoulder. It frustrated him and hurt him -- he just wanted things to go back to normal. He’d nearly died.. multiple times, he’d faced intergalactic tyrants, seen one of his friends DIE, brought him back to life -- he just.. wanted some kind of normalcy, but he couldn’t even get that.

So the gem for this is actually really hard to figure out, and not just because Connie is human. Even if we go with Rebecca’s personal HC that Connie’s gem would be a blue one (or was it blue-green?), nearly every fusion that Pearl is a part of so far in the series have some degree of pleochroism, iridescence, or straight up opalescent characteristics. The only exception is Sardonyx, and even that stone has multi-colored banding, so it still kind of fits the mold. And I like to take that into account when choosing the gem for a given fusion, if possible. Although....

It might be simpler if we just bent the rules of the SU universe itself and let her fuse under Stevonnie rules, still only having one Gem (a pearl). We’ll call the fusion Ponnie, for now. 

Ponnie would be a bit taller than Pearl, though not a full Giant Woman™ by any means. She will keep Connie’s hair, though it will be lighter, and tied back not unlike in that leaked trailer. The rest of her appearance would largely be an amalgamation of Connie and Pearl.
