K-Pop Demon Hunters is about three stick-thin bratty rich famous women, who have a shallow “OMG BOYS ARE SO CUTE!!!” mentality. The protagonist has an oh so overdone “Oh, I’m different! Why can’t I be like everyone else? Oh wait! It’s good to be myself!” plot. The songs are painfully generic with stupid lyrics and they inspire nothing. The love interest is a bland and boring Prince Charming dude. The Korean culture in the film is only used for aesthetics. This movie has no soul or wit whatsoever, but of course it’s about K-Pop, so it has a rabid “OMG YAS QUEEN SLAY!!!” hype, and god forbid anyone say anything negative about it.

Meanwhile, Emilia Perez weaves a dark, sad, triumphant story about a troubled indigenous Mexican woman who comes to terms with her gender dysphoria, who she really is within, dealing with her terrible past, and her complex relationship with her wife. The songs are hauntingly gorgeous and show a serious, informative depiction of the characters’ struggles, as well as real-world issues in Mexico. The way it depicts transgender issues and the way they’re treated is respectful and beautifully done, I learned a lot. I cried when Emilia and Jessi sung their romantic duet at the end of the film. It’s a powerful scene. I wish this movie got more appreciation, and not dismissed it as “racist” and “transphobic”.

If you've ever seen a post about doordash or lyft drivers being overworked and underpaid, this is basically the same thing but for doctors. Here's an article about why independent contractors are bad for the worker, but here's the cliff notes:

shit pay

no benefits

social isolation (coworkers changing frequently, so you don't have time to make friends or even proper acquaintances)

not actually independent workers/still tied to a company

They dressed it up by adding this reasoning to the end of the title "to help alleviate physician shortages, including in underserved areas," but it's just political theater. Any physician would still need proper licensing, and there are already systems and travelling doctor companies in place designed to address underserved areas. The only difference is that the companies would be "required" (i.e. CEOs have been chomping at the bit to do this) to make all these doctors ICs instead of salaried employees.
