sometimes I really just wish I were a cozy little housecat, ya know?
personally? i enjoy being a fan of characters who have done Wrong. i like when a character is not a perfect victim, has hurt people, has transgressed, has done bad things. sometimes its nice to feel the sting yknow? and to recognize that a character is not a flawless perfect victim, but is deserving of understanding and compassion anyway. a lot of people in fandom refuse to let go of moral absolutism and its... rough.
great now name a female character you feel this way about in the next 30 seconds or another hostage dies

For this poll, assume the following:
You are home and not busy.
You are at your baseline energy level, i.e. it's a normal day and you're not extra tired or stressed from any atypical prior events.
The person in question is a good friend or close family member whose company you enjoy.
No plans have been made with this person.
If a friend or family member showed up at your door unannounced, asking to hang out/do something together, would you be happy about it?
Yes!
I'd feel conflicted
No, I would not like this
I'm not sure/other
This isn't about a specific scenario, more of a general outlook difference. Anon's partner sometimes goes to certain friends' houses unannounced, and while anon's partner knows their friends well enough to know that this is acceptable, anon is always baffled by this because anon would not appreciate an unannounced visit no matter how much they like the person.

"We are down one member of our group, it looks like. Well, here, let us all remain seated so that everyone can receive the bride-to-be of this evening, Laura Bailey."
the one thing i will let myself be obnoxiously european about is travel distances. "british people think a 2 hour drive is too long" yes āļø thats me i do think that. being stuck in a car is torture. i want everything important to be within walking distance of my house. the fact a lot of usamericans live multiple miles from the nearest store is terrifying to me. how do you live like that............. how do you cope...............
found out my middle school crush got engaged this week and yes I AM having a crisis about it thank you for asking

Please spin this wheel and then this one to build your very own generic sci-fi/fantasy book title e.g. āA Sea of Mist and Moonshineā āThe Fellowship of Thievesā āThe Buffalo Enginesā.
Rerolls are ok but you have to tag what you settle on itās the law!
A probably-not-comprehensive of all the books that have molded my brain into the strange place it is today.
Seen these going around again, so here's mine. Spans from books I read as a kid to books I read as recently as a month or two ago.

I love Bail Organa.
Heās a normal guy who got into politics with the honorable sort of reasons, and kept his morals.
Heās a normal dude who made friends with some crazy-powerful people, and married the Queen of his planet.
He made friends with the best leaders in the galaxy.
He made friends with the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy- one of them he made friends with on a Sith planet that drove Jedi to madness, and worked together to keep them both alive on a planet designed to kill anything good and pure that landed there.
When he saw the Jedi Temole burning, he zoomed there to see what he could do to help. Heās not a first responder, he isnāt a soldier, heās just a good guy.
When every single Jedi except for two were dead, he resolved to help them in any way he could. He took the baby daughter of one of his best friends in as his own and ferried the other to a backwards dustball in hopes of just keeping them alive, and he left the last of the Jedi he knew in remote places, possibly never to see them again. Every single other Jedi was being hunted like vermin, like the worst criminals, so whatās to say that these two wouldnāt be as well?
But Bail Organa lived the rest of his life protecting the identity and hiding places of the only Jedi he knew were still alive. He raised the daughter of his friend as his very own and helped her to thrive.
He spent his whole life doing the right thing.
Bail Organa is a Good Guy of all time.
"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
*Yes, this is a blog post, but it's a blog post filled with links to news articles. If you can click one link, you can click another.
Please, PLEASE use Libby. OverDrive. Hoopla. CloudLibrary. Kanopy. Flipster. Freegal. Transparent Language. Mango. Jstor. Your library would not offer it if they could not afford it, and we afford things by reporting the number of people who use that service, so if you don't use the service we can't afford it. It's a cycle. Keep it going, keep using it, and we'll keep providing because we'll be able to justify the cost to the bean counters in government.

always great to hear my boss say "we're living through the collapse of the american library system" while I'm at my american library system job
anyway if you hadn't heard the current administration is trying to entirely defund and dissolve the IMLS which provides libraries with funding, especially useful for rural libraries and very small systems that don't have access to private funding to keep them afloat. This will absolutely devastate many many libraries across the country.
If you want to learn more and find out how you can help, check out the ALA website here: https://www.ala.org/faq-executive-order-targeting-imls
This set of frequently asked questions is intended to help library workers, library advocates, and library users understand this Executive O
Education is the enemy of authoritarians
There is a list of items under the heading "What can I do?" As important as it is to know what we're up against, it's just as important to make sure you know that there ARE things out there that you can do, that you can tell other people to do.
If you're someone who doesn't like to make calls, make them on the weekends when no one is going to be in the office. Make your calls, leave a voicemail. I know there are people who have severe anxiety about this, too, but there are scripts for these sorts of things that are very easy to find! Hell, you can even take the email from the "Send a message to your Senators and Representatives" and change that. Just make sure when you call you give your name and address including your zip code. For them to know that you are a constituent in their area and that they should listen to you, that information is important!
The below list was copied directly from the above link:
We need every library supporter to show up and make their voices heard. Here are concrete, effective actions you can take now:
Send a message to your Senators and Representatives urging them to overturn the executive order and protect IMLS funding.
Call your Senators and Representatives urging them to overturn the executive order and protect IMLS funding.
Send this action alert to five people in your network.
Write a letter to the editor in your local newspaper explaining why IMLS is important and the impact of federal dollars on communities.
