Quick complaint while it’s on my mind

Yugo x Amalia what?

Where the hell did this come from?

Like I get it, there is quite a bit of time that passes between season 1 and 2 and several years that happened in between season 2 and the OVAs and then the OVAs and season 3. In-show, canonically, time skips occurred, characters theoretically aged and everything.

So I get it, in theory, that because Amalia is probably the only other girl Yugo has been exposed to on a long term basis that isn’t Eva, he might develop feelings.

Though I would argue they would be a product of lack of exposure because he can do so much better.

However

How the hell is it reciprocated?

I don’t know how old everyone was when the show first started but even at this point-

… I did some quick research and have been informed that, bizarrely, Yugo is supposed to be 12 at the start of the show and Amalia is supposed to be 13.

I call BS on that for many reasons but this also dashes half of my reasons why this whole thing is weird. However, this makes many things in the show weird for completely different reasons and it’s actually sort of gross.

So nevermind that what I thought was a significant age difference, let’s talk about compatibility for ten seconds. Because Yugo is almost literally the purest person in that universe while Amalia develops significantly, she never actually stops being an entitled brat. That is probably the only aspect of herself that never decreased with time, experience, and age. She is shockingly resistant on that front, which is sort of admirable because the show doesn’t entirely shy away from the various ways that the main cast are in many ways garbage people. But she just doesn’t seem like his type. And vice versa.

But hey, what do I know, I just found it weird because we never got any build up to it, it was just sort of a surprise element in the OVAs. And also I don’t think it makes sense, but the lack of build up or any indication doesn’t help.

1. There were hints of them liking each other in the show but they so were small. 

In episdoe 14 of season 1 where Amalia tells Yugo that she would miss him when their adventure was over

In episode 16 of season 1 when Yugo returns to the groups after meeting his brother she literally ran up to hug him

In episode 18 of season 1 when the brotherhood left there is a small scene where Amalai looks her shoulder looking sad while saying take care Yugo and at the time Yugo is looking over his shoulder looking sad as well

In episode 24 of season 1 when Yugo is reunited with the brotherhood the first thing he did was hug Amalia

In season 2 of episode 7 when the brotherhood was leaving Yugo hug Amalia believe she wasn’t coming and Amalia got tear eyed.Another hint was in episode 13 when Yugo was turn into a zombie and when he became unzombiefied Amalia hug him saying she was so happy he was back. In episode 21 Amalia got jealous that Yugo was  being seduce by the Bellaphones and episode 22 where all the other are telling Yugo he can’t do it alone it was Amalia words that made him stop arguing. Also for the episodes 23 through 26 Amalia was angry at Yugo for leaving them and at the end she she hug while she had tears in her eyes

There were also a lot of hints in the manga too here

As for season 3, Drama, just drama. In contrast Eva and Dally was simple and just got more screen time and they didn’t have the same responsibilities as Yugo and Amalia. Yugo and Amalia can’t just drop everything like Eva and Dally so it create a problem for them. With Yugo aging putting more fuel to the drama fire. Another reason was the network that Wakfu was running, they wanted a kid hero so kids could watch and they didn’t want to let Yugo grow up. Lastly Tot the writer of the series loves drama and wanted Yugo to grow and have adult situations so this Yugo and Amalia relationship will continue in season 4 and 5. However their love story isn’t over we wold have to wait
