Actually with that part where Sakura says that Kotaro might buy them some tokyo bananas and Ai gets mad and is like "he'll never get us any souvenirs!" and then Junko is confused cause tokyo bananas did not exist in the 80s so she thinks it is like, actual bananas.
It occurs to me that if Sakura actually asked Kotaro if he could buy them some tokyo bananas, he'd just go into an unhinged rant about Saga and how they should not even look at some tokyo snacks and only think about Saga instead.
While writing that other spy classroom post I went on a sidetrack about Sibylla and Monika's relationship and how I think the short story with them before volume 9 does a really nice job of giving a nice capstone to their rivalry and settling fully into their sisterly bond. But it was unrelated to my point about queerness in the novels so I moved it here:
A bit of a sidetrack but I really love the short story where Sibylla helps Monika with her guilt over the whole going traitor thing. It is a really nice capstone to their rivalry with Sibylla finally winning for the first time by working with others, showing that she too has finally realised she is not just worse than Monika, and sending the clear message to Monika that 'you can't do everything yourself either, this lone wolf shtick is why I, who am weaker, can beat you'.
I also like when Sibylla is like "we may be about the same age, but Monika is still a full year younger than me, I really should pull out the age card more. Thinking about it that way, she is just my rebellious little sister brooding because she knows she fucked up. Its kind of cute when seeing it that way."
This one is also set before volume 9. Which I think makes some of the scenes in that one even better too. Seeing how Sibylla will also always have Monika's back, because they are family. Sibylla loves each and every member of lamplight. And seeing how she looks out for her 'little sisters' especially is very nice.

Pride month so fuck it. Talking about Monica and Thea from spy classroom series again. Slight content warning, I will talk about their queerness in very offensive terms because it is a series set in a setting based on early 1900s Europe.
I find it fascinating how Thea's bisexuality is a relatively unfocused aspect of her character when Monika's homosexuality is so important for her story, but it makes sense when you consider their different perspectives.
Thea is pretty atypical in that for the designated horny lewd character, she is the moral backbone of the team. She is a full blown paragon who desires to save and help everyone, even her enemies. She does not believe anyone is undeserving of love or being helped. So while she too grew up in a society that sees queer people as "mentally ill perverts", she does not care as much. She thinks being a "mentally ill pervert" is fine and does not care that she is that. She already knows she is and does not care. She will still be a hero who saves people.
Meanwhile Monika wanted to fit in. Monika resents the fact that she cannot fit in. Her family rejected her because she was not a good artist and is gay. She started to find her calling as a spy, then learned she was not as good as she thought she was and felt she lost her place there. Then she finds her place in lamplight and then falls in love with Lily. This makes her terrified that her homosexuality will again lead to her losing her place. So she bottles it up, even though Klaus and Thea both learn of it and try to convince her to be open about her feelings, she can't. Because Monika fundamentally is too scared of being abandoned to be willing to accept the parts of herself that she hates.
To Thea, she wants to be Monika's partner. The one person who can have her back and know that she has her's. And Monika, deep down, secretly is happy about this. But having Thea's approval fills her with shame as well because Thea is so unashamed about being a "pervert". Thea is openly horny, she flirts with people both for work and pleasure. She sleeps around for fun. To Monika this is just more evidence that her and Thea having something in common (their queerness) is just evidence that she herself is a mentally ill pervert.
But she accepts Thea as being her partner (begrudgingly), her equal and the one who she relies on when up against the wall because Monika too is actually frustrated at how cruel the world treats people like her, people deemed lesser. That is what her whole speech when playing heel is about, how this world fucking sucks and really it deserves to be burnt to the fucking ground.
While I do think the causality is the other way around, Thea was written to be lewd and then the author wanted to make that consistent with her ideology, I think it makes sense that Thea is so accepting of her own, and others, sexuality. And is fully a shipper on deck for Monika and Lily. Thea is a kind person who believes the world should accept everyone, no matter how flawed.
To be clear I keep referring to things in the way the characters in universe would think about it here. They live in a society where being queer is seen as a mental illness. I obviously do not believe this, I am a bisexual trans person.
I think it could be seen as kind of a copout that no one in lamplight is a homophobe in a setting where that is the norm (you know, other than internalized homophobia Monika here), but I do think it works for all of them individually so I don't really mind.
And really, Monika should have known that. None of the others ever seem disgusted with Thea over being bisexual (at most Sibylla and Lily might both agree with Monika that Thea is sexual to an uncomfortable degree in general, but that is usually about men). Really it is all just her own self hatred that makes her blind to the fact they will accept her.
Just finished watching zombieland saga yumeginga paradise. Incredible movie. It did a great job of splitting focus between all members of franchouchou and giving them all their own time to shine.
It also made very well use of the various side characters from the series.

Before I get into deeper discussion, a bunch of neat things I noticed and liked:
Ai being the first to leap in for the group hug near the end, after how she was always the one who tried to keep the most professional relationship and even denied being friends in early season 1 pre character development was sweet.
How hard Saki takes it that Maria finds her frightening, and how she decides to just brush past it and make clear she still cares about her when Maria tries to apologize later.
Ai and Sakura being the most annoyed at not getting to go to tokyo.
Junko's increased confidence compared to earlier in the series. She is still scared of a lot of things but she ends up taking charge a lot for a bit.
Lily gets to operate heavy equipment now! A mech!
Saki about to say Reiko's name but correcting herself to just say "Maria's mom", since franchouchou sometimes have hung out with Maria it would be less suspicious if they just knew her mom as such instead of by name.
Saki having fun playing with one of the kids at the start. She has always consistently been shown to be great with kids and it was nice seeing that remembered.
Ai doing the hand signs to quickly communicate how they would play off Sakura losing her head, showing how troughout their time they have become experienced with dealing with these kinds of shenanigans.
Saki teasing Lily about her height by pulling the soda can out of her reach and Lily immediately running to Yugiri about it.
Sakura having a nightmare about Tae graduating and going solo artist after she found out that she is 29 years old.
Ai telling Kotaro that his treatment of them is zombie discrimination after he claims that zombies in movies can all keep going tirelessly day after day after day even at night so they are just lazy.
Sakura using Tae's obvious fake name when talking to the farmer!
I guess the earth really is round.
I have a few nitpicks, namely Romero size shifting is incredibly random and I think that there being so much action runs a bit counter to how the anime portrays violence as a thing that should be avoided if possible. But the action is good in this movie and like, it is a situation that can't really be resolved without violence so I get it, it just feels a bit off in that way.
Sakura recognized that Kotaro looks like Inui is neat. I also like how they go about avoiding showing us the audience his eyes without sunglasses since like, anything they do show will be disappointing after not seeing for two seasons plus the movie and also the manga.
I think it was a wise decision how relatively little screentime Kotaro had, since he got so much focus in revenge putting him on the backburner is good. I do like how the scene where he reunites with them and reapplies the makeup plays out a lot though. The friendly ribbing about how they keep fucking up on the whole "hide that they are zombies" thing but still going back to the "franchouchou can save Saga" solution for every problem anyway.
Junko getting to confront her fear of heights is nice, something that often crossed my mind with how Ai had to confront her fear of lightning.
Tae is, unsurprisingly after reading the gaiden manga, pretty mean with her memories back. But I really like how she always still seems to appreciate that franchouchou has done good, she never doubts that. She just thinks they are not able to do anything in this situation until proven wrong.
I also like how Junko got to give Tae some wisdom with the whole thing about how zombies will always be there for each other.
Finally seeing the sentai uniforms in play was nice too.
I also really like the bit with each of them posed in front of the black board with some things written about them. That was fun. But it felt like that and some earlier scenes were there in case someone had not seen the anime or something? I guess its there for people who watched it back when it aired and then did not rewatch it in anticipation of the movie.
Just finished watching the backrooms. It was a pretty ok movie. I laughed when I first saw the monster design though, this is not meant to be a horror comedy. That said it did still feel pretty intense at the end.
Its a pretty decent movie. Very good cinematography though.
Idk why I should compare it to Iron Lung, sure both got directed by youtubers but... very different movies. Iron Lung is much better in my opinion though.

I used to read Clinic of Horrors as it updated when it first came out, but then I got really busy for a while and kind of fell off it.
Just learned a few days ago it was on a hiatus now after finishing season 2, so I decided to catch up before hiatus is over and uh... it is really good so I am already done.
If you like horror stuff and cute stuff this is really good. If you like horror comedy or action horror you will probably enjoy it too. And if you are a fan of paragons Bianca is another of my favorite ones. Her personality is very atypical for one, but that adds to her appeal.
Some game soundtracks that I highly recommend checking out.
Literally every AC game (but especially the 4th gen games have standout tracks, but there are some really incredible tracks from other gens too like monkey loves daddy, vulture, shape memory alloys, king of no. 9, contact with you, rough and decent, forgive an angel, dirty worker, etc.)
Dolls Nest (the entire track is good and it is pretty short, I especially like three huntresses rush, chariot overlord and twin embryos though).
Homura Hime (some especially standout tracks include tumble and rumble! roly poly operation!, love after war ~ kaleidoscope, shiba patrol strike!, fest! dance! frenzied demon night!, midnight sakura - anthem of silent rain, scarlet flame and to see the sun - mihare and more that I don't want to spoil ahead as they play at very peak scenes)
Ex Astris (I especially like voyage of the dauntless for mixing in the main theme in a meaningful way, reel of the utu van, knight of fury and monitor)
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth (its track is a really cool high tech vibe, especially standout ones include the royal knights and royal knights battle, the main cyber sleuth theme and data is eroding, also the Jimmiken theme).
Ultrakill (I am especially fond of versus, the death of god's will, the world looks white, the world looks red and war without reason)
Oblivion (this is the most nostalgic fantasy soundtrack for me, not just for games)
The sonic franchise as a whole (it has a lot of very varied styles, I especially recommend checking out the tracks from that old sonic racing game, not free riders, the older one. Also adventure era sonic)
Star wars: Republic Commando (Vode An is one of the coolest tracks in any game, shadow warriors I think it was called is also great)
Halo franchise (everybody knows the main halo theme is good, but i especially recommend checking out the ODST soundtrack for how different it is to the rest of the series while still being really good and memorable)
