Aaron Ramsey Charity Golf Day 2014 – Parkinson’s UK
A couple weeks ago, (Tuesday, 29th April, 2014) saw Arsenal & Wales star, Aaron Ramsey hold his inaugural Golf Charity Day, raising money for Parkinson’s UK.
For such a great cause we decided to donate a Steed Bespoke 3-Piece Suit to the Charity Auction and which also saw myself play in the Golf Competition. (Even though I am just a 28 Handicap Beginner)!
Now Parkinson’s UK is a charity that is very dear to Aaron’s heart, due to the sad fact that his Uncle, passed away after suffering from the disease for just 2 years.
It was a difficult thing to hear, when Aaron was explaining to us all how healthy and happy his Uncle was before being diagnosed with Parkinson’s at a relatively young age and then how the disease progressed at an alarming rate before terribly taking his life.
Parkinson’s is something most of us have all heard of but if I am honest, I didn’t quite realise till this event how common this is and how swiftly things can change after being diagnosed.
Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition. People with Parkinson’s don’t have enough of a chemical called dopamine because some nerve cells in their brain have died.
Without dopamine people can find that their movements become slower so it takes longer to do things.
The loss of nerve cells in the brain causes the symptoms of Parkinson’s to appear.
There’s currently no cure for Parkinson’s and we don’t yet know why people get the condition.
Parkinson’s doesn’t directly cause people to die, but symptoms do get worse over time.
We where also told that everyone in the world would develop Parkinson’s if they lived to the age of 120.

The event itself, was held at the fantastic Shire London Golf Course in Barnet, North London, of which Aaron Ramsey is a club member and friend to all that work at the club.
The Shire London is a 27 Hole Facility which has a 9 Hole “Ballesteros Challenger Course” to go along side it’s prestigious Ballesteros “Masters” Course. These two course’s are the only two in the UK which were designed by the Legendary Seve Ballesteros back in 2007 before he sadly passed away in 2011.
The Ballesteros Masters Course is laid out like few other golf courses in the world. There are six par 5s, six par 4s and six par 3s, and on both the front 9 and the back 9, no two consecutive holes are the same par, with equal numbers of par 3s, 4s and 5s. This gives maximum variety, and maximum enjoyment – a core philosophy of Seve’s designs.
It really is a magnificent facility with a great clubhouse, which serve up amazing food for a great price and I can’t speak highly enough of the staff at the club as well. So if any of our clients are ever in the area and fancy a round, you should certainly give it a try, or even better…I will go play with you!
It was an absolute honour to attend the event and I can’t wait for next years event.
