“‘S nice.”

“Hmm?”

“What you’re doing.” Harry shifts against Draco. It’s unseasonably hot for early summer, and Harry’s all damp and sticky and warm. Draco forgives all those faults because Harry’s also very naked and he makes a sleepy, satisfied sound as he burrows his nose into the crook of Draco’s neck. Draco gets a faceful of Harry’s hair in the process. Draco’s been carding his fingers through Harry’s hair for the past…uh, how long has it been since they both came? Draco lost track of time. He’s drifted in and out of sleep, lulled by their gentle banter, the pale blue moonlight filtering through the curtains, and the comfort of Harry’s messy hair between his fingers.

“I’m not doing anything,” mutters Draco, absently wrapping one of Harry’s curls around his knuckle. His hair is so… elastic. Draco pulls his finger and the curl jumps like a spring.

“Boink,” Draco murmurs to himself, because that’s the sound a curl would make if curls made sounds. He always imagined the texture of Harry’s hair would be coarse, something to match the visuals, wild curls and untamed thickness. He’d made abundant fun of it when they were at Hogwarts, after all. Finding out that Harry’s hair was soft, oh, so soft, the first time Draco plunged his fingers into that glorious mop, had been a truly devastating discovery.

Harry laughs against his skin, a silent shaking of his shoulders.

“You’re touching my hair,” he whines, but there’s a smile in his voice.

Heat floods Draco’s face as awareness returns and slaps him fully awake. His hand stills in Harry’s hair. He’s been caught in flagrante delicto of sentimentality.

Because there’s nothing sentimental about them. Draco and Harry fuck, and that’s all there is to it. Okay, yes, sure, they’ve been fucking for five months now and Draco hasn’t even thought of seeing other people all the while and as far as he knows Harry’s not seeing other people either, but that doesn’t mean anything. So what if Harry snuggles up to Draco after sex, the minute they both come? What if he proceeds to fall asleep in Draco’s arms, effectively spending the night at Draco’s more often than not? Isn’t that what all one-night-stands do? Draco hasn’t had a one-night-stand before, so he’s rather out of his depth. ‘One-night-stand’ is such a misleading term anyway. They ought to come up with a different name for it, because Harry’s definitely spent more than one night with Draco. 

One thing Draco knows for sure, though: you’re not supposed to lovingly stroke your one-night-stand’s hair while you drift to sleep wrapped around one another.

Carefully, Draco withdraws his hand from Harry’s hair and sets it on the sheet tangled around them. There. Neutral ground.

“I’m terribly sorry, Potter. I must have fallen asleep and dreamt you were a very… big… Kneazle.”

Harry’s laugh is a warm exhale on Draco’s cheek this time. “D’you often mistake your boyfriend for a Kneazle?”

Draco’s grateful he’s horizontal, because the shock floors him.

“Boyfriend…?” he says, faintly. Harry cuddles closer, oblivious to the thundering of Draco’s poor, helpless heart.

“Can you do that again?” Harry asks. His voice is heavy with sleep, full of easy fondness. “It’s so… nice.”

“So you said,” Draco rasps ineffectually. Harry lets out a little moan of pleasure when Draco’s fingertips graze his scalp. It’s a sound that could ruin Draco’s life. Let’s be honest, it already has.
