Hii! oh no worries at all! I'm also self-taught so I had to figure out how comics work on my own too. I honestly started drawing them before I knew all the rules and it wasn't a good choice so what I did later was reading some tutorials and taking notes in my sketchbook to memorize it better. I was reading most about paneling rules and speech bubbles placement, I don't have all the tutorials saved but I managed to find a few that were really helpful 🥰 and of course I wish you good luck!!

Special ❤️ Part 1

I started around 2020, I used to draw a lot as a kid but stopped when I was in school then got back to it just before the pandemic when I also started reading mha so not that long ago 🥹

As for drawing good expressions, I'd always hear from artists I watched that you really gotta push and exaggerate them. Always have a good reference first, try to watch animations you like and pause the videos to really see how the expressions work, for me I'd say the brows are the key! They can show such a huge range of emotions if you exaggerate them enough whether it's surprise, anger, sadness etc.

good tip is to try and mimic the expression you wanna draw, see how your brows and eyes shape, if they go up or push close to each other, where your face muscles go when for eg. you squint your eyes or open your mouth, it all works together but you can pick one thing first and practice it. Find references, it can be from anime or real life, whatever you like. You can pick one emotion first and just try and copy it. If it helps, you can draw over the reference first to see what goes where and then try again on your own.

And gosh art tips...I'm not very good at that hahdhs I'd sayyy

1. Go at your own pace: art community is huuge and once you get thrown into it you'd probably start to compare to artists that are more experienced and skilled, sure it can be motivating for some to practice more to get on their level faster but it can also be very misleading where you end up constantly comparing yourself instead of focusing on your art journey

2. Take breaks please take breaks!!! I know sometimes you just want to sit and draw for 10 hours straight (I'm guilty of that too ) but it's gonna be painful not only for your eyes, hands and back but your mind too. I heard a cool tip to take a few minutes break every time you feel good about your piece, you want to WANT to go back to this drawing again, what you don't want to do is take breaks when you're frustrated that it's not going well because then you start to think of the task as something negative...(When I feel that way I usually stop for the day and go back another time with a clear mind )

3. Zoom the hell out : if you're working on a paper, you're safe on that one :3 but for my ipad/tablets people, please zoom out the canvas once in a while, I know we like details but you gotta put more focus on the whole piece cause that's what people are gonna see when/if you share it. Always keep in mind we're working Big → Medium → Small, we first focus on biggest overall shapes then slowly going down to smaller details.

4. Focus on one subject first : let's say you want to learn how to draw hands but also you want to improve shading and color, oh and what about anatomy and shape langua- pick one thing at a time, really get into studying it, watch tutorials, get inspo from your fav artists, break down the subject into easy to understand shapes and get a little obsessed about it and draw and draw and draw until you feel confident about it, then you can move onto the next subject but from time to time come back to the first one so you don't immediately forget the skill you learned :)
