Hi hi everyone! Welcome back to the blog- today we're talking about all things holiday! Crocheting holiday themed gifts was always a thing I loved the aesthetic of when I was younger. Making a snowflake for Christmas, a heart for Valentine's, four-leafed clovers for St. Patricks; having the ability for make all these creative items was always so fun to me. Since Valentine's Day is coming up, I plan on crocheting myself something Valentines themed! In my case, I think I'm gonna make myself a shirt and skirt combo! If you really want to impress your crush or significant other this Valentine's Day, I recommend making them something that they really like! This could be a plushie, a chest, an outfit, almost any and anything that they like (within reason) might be able to be made! Hi hi guys, welcome back to the blog! Today, we're talking about the basics of crochet- the yarn! Now let me go ahead and say this; the yarn that you choose to use can honestly make or break a crochet project. Different projects require different yarns; which means you can make certain projects with certain yarns but not with others. Now this point of view is purely speculative! If you want to make a crochet dress out of extremely chunky yarn that's entirely up to you lol (but it'll probably be heavy and wont be something you wear often). My personal favorite yarn that I use is from Loops and Threads! It's Loops and Threads Soft Classic Acrylic yarn in medium (4) weight, and it can range from a 4 to even a 5.5 gauge hook! I'm currently making something for myself with Loops and Threads as we speak. While it can get tangled a little easy, it's always my go to yarn for most of my projects. I give it a solid 9/10! Hi hi everyone! Welcome back to the blog. Today we're going big- and talking about big crochet projects! Now let's get this straight; big, time consuming crochet projects are NOT for the faint of heart or the week of mind. It takes a lot of time to be dedicated to a bigger crochet project. In order to complete these, you have to be dedicated!! These can be things like sweaters, blankets, and rugs, cardigans, or even life sized plushies! Some people get creative, making rose petals blankets, full sleeve cropped cardigans, even full 2 to 3 piece outfits. I actually know a person who's made an entire dress before! I personally have only done a weighted scrap blanket, and even then it took me a couple of days to complete. I am working on another project now though! Hi hi everyone, and welcome back to the blog! Today we're going to talk about one of the classic crochet projects- beanies! Beanies have always been a nice gift for most even when they aren't hand crocheted by someone. Everyone loves a nice hat, but this blog was made to specifically talk about the crocheted ones! When making beanies, it often takes lots of long rows of repetitive stitches. Most stick to basic double crochet stitches, but if someone makes you a single stitch crochet beanie? They really, REALLY like you (cause doing anything with a single stitch takes forever). Now, while a beanie seem beginner friendly, its almost anything but easy. You'll finish the hat just for it to be too small for you because your tension was too tight and hook size too small, and it makes you wanna kick and scream! Hi hi everyone! Welcome back to the blog. Today, we're gonna go back in time; it's time (hehe time pun) to learn the history of crochet! The earliest example of "crochet" as we know it used to be known as nalebinding, which dates back to 6500 BC (as told to us by Elise Rose Crochet, who's video is linked down below). Other than that though, the origins of crochet itself isn't very clear. Other than a few other cultures using the same "slip stitch" technique, not much else is known of it until the early 19th century, due to the Irish Potato Famine. In the 1840's, almost everyone started crocheting, along with knitting and netting, as a way to make income for starving families. Lace making was a way to make income where crops could not, and during this time many well known patterns emerged, gaining world wide recognition after the famine. Many Irish people left Ireland and England, taking the skills of lacemaking with them. In a time of loss and starvation, an incredible skill was introduced to everyone, and to this day Irish lace makers are known for their beauty and intricacy in their projects. Now, many people all over the world crochet, making new patterns and keeping the tradition of crochet alive. That's all for today!
