Cycling through conflicts,
orgasm, ovation, opposition, avoidance
avoidance
avoidance
avoidance.
You are not the center of the universe;
I wake up with bruises on my knees.
Your name on my hollow heart;
a dead tree grows no leaves;
this is as tall as I will ever be,
get used to looking down on me.
@nosebleedclub poetry month 18: day of rain
this day of rain needs to end. am i blocking out your sun or are you blocking out mine?
I am seeking shelter in this storm too, love. can we share my umbrella? Iβve been standing in the rain for 2 months now. when do I get to step under the awning? when do I get to sleep under the canopy as the rain plops against the canvas? my arm is weary, love. my curls drip down my back as I brush hair from your eyes. could you hold the umbrella today? my socks are wet, honey. could you hold the umbrella today? I canβt remember if thereβs rain in my eyes or tears. can you hold the umbrella today, love? thereβs water in my boots, hun. can you hold the umbrella today?
@nosebleedclub poetry month 17: bread and wine
I talk to God in the shower, hands together in my hair, kneeling to pick up my razor.
I talk to God in the car, shouting up toward the exit, bowing my head in the exhaustion of heavy traffic.
On Sundays, I take the bread, I drink the wine. I donβt talk to God.

@nosebleedclub poetry month 16: seed moon
you call hyacinths lilacs but it doesnβt matter because you know itβs my favorite flower, waiting for me to smell them every time weβre walking through the store. the pharmacy closes in 12 minutes but you wait for me. the pharmacy is 37 feet from the flowers but you wait for me.
you tell me we should buy some while we still have time, while April still hangs in the sky like a promise, but I donβt have any room and the moonlight doesnβt reach past my windowsill.
instead, I place your weary roots in a clay pot I made when I was seven and I hang you in a macrame holder my dad bought me last fall, swinging gently above me as I sleep, my breaths resting on your leaves, my hums floating up to your petals. I leave the water on the sill as She rises in the dark, hoping my efforts can nourish you as much as She would.
@nosebleedclub poetry month 15: never
now your heart melts warm on my windshield
even in the cold April breeze
vast changes from spring to summer
everything goes when the flowers bloom
ready for the heat of July?
@nosebleedclub poetry month 14: husk
When the clouds eat the sun and the sun eats the stars and your heart is the moon, I cut away the rose vines surrounding my love and climb into the husk of your chest. Iβll be your dark red rhythm when youβre my golden light.
@nosebleedclub poetry month 13: blade
your love as a blade of grass compared to my stainless steel metaphors. your love as the sharpened cloud when the sun blocks my view. Your love as the blackout when the film ends and my heart is sucked dry and I need more more more
@nosebleedclub poetry month 12: dollmaker
I am tired of being so angry. When will summer come?
You have replaced my soft apple-core with your the plasticine torso of what you think women should be, my organic elements with the fear of being too soft for another, of someone else taking out my cloud-stuffing puff by puff.
I am tired of being so cruel. When will summer come?
My gentle, swiveling teddy-bears arms spun too many times by your cruel hand, falling off in the months after your absence, the lightest touch of another sending them to the ground. Leaving me to make new fingers with the only things I can find, the sterile rubber glove under the kitchen sink, the pocket knife in my desk drawer, the pencil that lives in my pocket...
I am tired of being so guarded. When will summer come?

@nosebleedclub poetry month 11: forgotten room
My empathy lies empty as a nesting doll, down, down, down, layer by layer, til there's nothing left but a single empty doll, forgotten as a childhood bedroom.
@nosebleedclub poetry month 10: 2:21 am
12:30 am and I am peeling your bones away from mine
it is harder to unbraid our bones each time, and harder still to deal with your grimace. I look out the window as I hand back your vertebrae, one by one, hoping you will take my eyes before I have to untangle the entirety of our spines.
1:16 am and I have wrung you dry once more
please don't let me drain you. please don't empty me. please don't let me push you away. please don't leave me.
1:43 am and I am tired of severing this bond down to the last wire just to prove what color they all are
believe my when I say I am green for you. believe me when I tell you I am wired in earnest shades of blue. believe me when I admit that despite the weary purple strands building up, I am here.
2:21 am and I am walking away with my bones haphazardly shoved into my bag, with my body empty and your vacant torso before me
but I walk away with a few of your vertebrae in my coat pocket and I leave a few of mine behind on the seat. please go home and weave them back into your voids as I sit on the shower floor and place each bone into its waiting space, gaping open for your return. please don't leave me. please don't let me leave you.
@nosebleedclub poetry month 9: Contamination
I see your face in the halls, in the commons, in the space between my upper eyelid and its lower friend before I close my eyes, weighing down this rot-heart in my chest, separating me from the one I see when those friends part ways again.
Who was I before you infected me? Who I am now that I carry this disease? Your cruelty eats my soul away cell by cell. My empathy shuts down with my consideration, the sepsis hitting the soft tissue of my kindness, corroding the outer wall of my compassion, the gangrene setting in.
I want the meds, I want the physical therapy, I want the surgery, the incision, the excision, the ectomy, the blasty, the transplant, the removal, the any and everything. Get OUT of me.
I've quarantined and I've detoxed and I've cleansed and again and again and again. Yet, I see your face in the crowd, though I haven't seen your face in 8 months, and I can't breathe as your infection spreads throughout my almost-maybe-thought-it-was-healed body all over again, starting from my brain, my not-so-healed brain who imagines you in the crowd simply because my sister mentioned your name two weeks ago.
@nosebleedclub poetry month 8: driving past your elementary school
like sorrel in a field of clover, I no longer notice her when I drive by, just a sun-soaked memory baked in her brick walls:
you wear an orange slice smile and I wave a woven wrist, braided by your baby carrot fingers and tied by my mother's bare-bones hands as we swing palm in palm
I wear your love like a mouthguard and you pull back your hair and tie it up with my loyalty, facing the world together
our hopes rests easy like the frogs on your pool deck as we wrap ourselves in towels of forever, watching the moon rise in shades of always
@nosebleedclub poetry month 7: real angel
The real angles lay on their sides, still waiting for someone to come up behind them and make them feel loved for once. To be loved in the dark, when there is no solace, no sunlight, no warmth to be found, when loving is hardest. They cover their golden halos and wish the light would fade for just one moment, aching for that darkness that comes with the true sleep of another's arm around their holy waists.
The fallen lay on their backs, having either found love or no longer bothering to look for it anymore. They take their broken halos and press the golden halves into the eyes of their loves, the only light they will ever need. The others keep their shards in the drawer, tucked between the Bible and old photos, a cutting light when the darkness crowds in, when they can't feel the hand of a lover or God alike.

@nosebleedclub poetry month 6: love you've given
the love I've given and the trust I've broken: the inevitable yin to the yang. it's amazing how one month erases three years of love
the love you've given and the trust you've broken: why did we have to have both sides of the coin? how can I ever turn to you again?
@nosebleedclub poetry month 5: rusted
my childhood bicycle meets me two roads down from my new address
a rusted blue thing, limp streamers hanging from the handlebars, sparkles still visible through the grime
do you remember when we went to the campground and raced from one end to the other, 6, 7, 8 miles a day? when we were going too fast down the boat ramp, eyes on the sparkling green water, and we ran into the tree? do you remember your cut? I still have the dent right here. I think I see your scar. do you remember when your mom wiped the blood from your knee? when she wiped the dirt from my frame? do you remember when you gave me the bell? when you delighted to ring it as often as possible? what happened to that ringing summer? this winter has been so long, I can't remember what the dandelions look like. are they still yellow? am i still blue? are you still you?
