this took significantly less time than the bonfire piece i did and i am far more pleased with the results!!!! i think that goes to show that i need more practice rendering humans but for now i am clinging to my line art for dear life. i always like the look of lineless art, but i can never execute it myself it seems. ANYWAY, i fucking LOVE rendering water. i could spend all day drawing people going splish splash in the water. it's just so fun and it turns out so pretty <3333

here's a peek at the process. i first had a loose sketch of this idea back when i was on my own island vacation last november. decided i would finish it for the summertime so here we are!! cleaned up the line art and did a bit of a color and lighting test. afterwards i put some of the flat colors in. then i just went ham on the rendering before adding some other effects. last steps were adding some overlays and highlights and shadows to get the final piece.

i accidentally drew this on a canvas twice the size of my usual A4 size so when i downscaled it for tumblr the quality was getting destroyed. because of that, the blurring and grain i wanted to add to the piece had to be scrapped. if i were to ever print this piece i'd probably add it back in but for now here's whatcha get!!!
