The first one immediately had me hooked. Nummer two was very fun and number five broke my heart. Excerpt: Pay attention, listen well, she thinks, so that she would be deserving of these beautiful people. She leans close and drinks in everything they have to say. And she discovers that it is all poison. These people with the blinding smiles cannot discern truth from lies. They look at each other with vultures’ eyes and their words reek of decay. She finds herself nauseous.

Summary: Wei Ying pulls off Chenqing. The note abruptly falters, going sharp as he blocks the blow intended for Lan Wangji. The strike is strong and fast. The Wen’s knife is sharp. It takes Wei Ying’s body an endless, aching moment to realize it has been harmed. And then there’s blood, splashing hot across Wei Ying’s face and clothing. Wei Wuxian is injured on the battlefield defending Lan Wangji. They both have feelings about it. --------- Written for the MDZS Reverse Big Bang 2021, based on an illustration by milkcrates Kay's comments: Couldn't tear my eyes off the screen once I started reading this story. I think we all need a bit of wounded during the Sunshot Capmpaign Wei Wuxian in our life. Especially when it involves tender wound caring and Wangxian figuring each other out faster. Excerpt: He doesn’t know what Lan Zhan looks like on the days Wei Ying is not grounded in himself. Wei Wuxian wants to be worthy of Lan Zhan’s care. He aches with it. It’s a lingering pain low in his belly. Once upon a time, Wei Wuxian was the rising star of his generation. Now, he knows his name is anathema. That’s why they’re out here, under a tarp on the battle-flattened ground and not in a cosy tent with the rest of their allies. He’d tried, in the beginning, to turn Lan Zhan away -- but it became clear, night after night, that Lan Zhan is more obstinate than Wei Wuxian has energy to combat. He has so little he can give Lan Zhan. He can at least give him his thanks. His fingers crawl across the short distance. The dirt is cool and dry, but Lan Zhan’s hand, when he finds it, is warm and perfect. He gives Lan Zhan’s fingers a short squeeze, a sincere word, and then withdraws.

The Wens go to the Cloud Recesses to seek help and Lan Wangji frets at Wei Wuxian’s bedside. The world changes.

My comments:  Aahh, this hit the spot in this whole fucking disaster-year and election week in particular.  [Ahaha, here we are in January, and that comment is STILL applicable.]  I needed some hurt/comfort and caretaking and family. POV jumps around, which is lovely, in this case, because you get a peek at how important wwx is in so many lives, and how much they want to help him.

In which a sickness strikes the Wen camp, and they leave for Cloud Recesses to get help before it is too late. Lan Wangji, of course, makes certain they are welcomed and cared for. Since it’s a sickness that mostly ravages non-cultivators, wwx’s secret is out of the bag immediately. This allows people to break down their preconceptions of him (and the Wens) more easily than they would have otherwise.

[Wen Qing:] “…You have been out cold for almost a week.”

Summary: The night Madam Lan's first son is born, a grieving elder places a curse upon them. Nineteen years later, Madam Lan's second son embarks on a quest to save them all. Kay's comments: The suspense during this story was killing me. And also, this story was so heartbreaking. I felt so much for Mama Lan. The Angst with a Happy Ending really hit home here. Excerpt: The two of them had only been ill once before, when they were very small. Lan Wangji distantly remembers healers fretting over his sniffles, as if he laid upon his deathbed. He remembers being told he wouldn't see his mother that month, and refusing food and medicine until the decision was overturned. His mother held him close through every cough, whispering her love as if she would never have another chance. She trembled with relief when her sons returned healthy. The morning after his collapse in the classroom, Lan Xichen faints in the middle of a council meeting. Lan Wangji sits at his brother’s bedside, out of his depth, wishing his mother sat in his place and thankful she didn’t know. She at least would sleep easy tonight.

He took the general’s silence as a sign to continue. “I am your solution,” Wei Ying breathed out. ⋇ ⋆ ✦ ⋆ ⋇ Wei Ying offers himself in exchange for the freedom of the Wen Remnants in a war the other branch of their clan started. The revered Gusu Lan war general takes him up on the offer and Wei Ying finds apparently nothing better to do than pine after the mated alpha (cough). Kay's comments: Wei Wuxian really went through it in this story. The author stated that the misunderstanding is meant to be comedic, but it still drove me up a wall. Made it even more satisfying when it was cleared and Wangxian were finally free to got at it like rabbits. Excerpt: Arriving at Gusu was a whole other ordeal—there were squeals of delight from a woman dressed in the iconic Gusu white with sof blue gradients as she rushed up to their—the general’s—horse. She was a chaotic ball of energy that jumped up and down as the general dismounted from behind him first. Wei Ying would lie if anyone asked if he missed having the solid body pressed against him now that their travels were concluded. There were hushed whispers from the woman as she stole repeated glances at Wei Ying. An unfamiliar wave of envy washed over him when her hand reached out and rubbed the side of the general’s face while she cuddled up in his chest. He could tell by the curve of her hips and swell of her bosom that she must be an omega. At the very least, she was built like the perfect one. Already mated and then putting airs on me—noble and revered my ass—

Summary: Wei Ying sits back on his heels and stares down at the man. “What were you thinking being out in a storm like that?” He shakes his head and swiftly secures his bag on his back before he slides his arms under the man and carefully lifts him up. He needs to get him out of the rain to warm up and tend to the worst of the superficial injuries and hope he doesn’t end up finding anything more serious hiding beneath the surface. The man makes a small snuffling sound, nuzzling into Wei Ying’s shoulder as he’s picked up, reminding him of a bunny, and Wei Ying has to bite back the urge to coo. Now is not the time. OR Wei Ying moves back to his childhood home and finds a beautiful stranger unconscious on the beach after a nasty storm and ends up getting more than he ever could have hoped for. Kay's comments: The fastest burn I've read in a Wangxian story in a while and that's saying something, because recently I feel like I've read a lot of fast burns! I love that Wei Ying gets to have his (very supportive) parents in this story and Lan Zhan gets to have his mama! Excerpt: “—and the Prince and Princess lived happily ever after. The end.” Wei Ying’s mom closes the book, his dad gently taking it from her hand as Wei Ying shifts so he looks up at her from where his head lay on her lap. “Mama?” She smiles down at him. “Yes, A-Ying?” “Can I have a prince someday too?” His parents share a look then, a silent conversation passing between them before they turn their attention to the small boy again. His mother’s eyes crinkle in a warm smile. “Of course, baobao. You can have all the princes your little heart desires!” “Baobei,” his father chastises warmly. Wei Ying’s mom chuckles. “Fine, fine! You can have as many princes as your little heart desires only if you care for them and treat them well, and they treat you well in return. Got it?” Wei Ying nods slowly, fairly certain he understands. “Good.” She boops his nose and starts to get up.

Summary: Wei Wuxian looks at his parents, their eyes full of fondness, and love, just for him. "Oh my A-Ying, look at you," his mother cradles his face, caressing his cheeks with her thumb. He leans into the touch with a soft smile. AU where most the dead come back to life. Kay's comments: Dove into this story because I was craving some Wei Ying & his parents interaction and got so much more than I bargained for! Not only do Wei Ying's parents turn up, but also people like Jin Guangshan and Wen Ruohan. Most of the dead returning is a fitting description and now I worry about Jin Guangyao and Xue Yang also turning up suddenly. Brilliantly written and it feels very real. It's not a fluffy wish fullfilment story where everyone is suddenly friends and I love that. Excerpt: The vendor shows off a tattered notebook, bound by strings that are almost too clean. Wen Ruohan has seen enough and continues forward. Stall after stall, many claim to have something to do with the Yiling-Louzu. His inventions, his writing, and some even claimed to have parts of his body. But none, Wen Ruohan notices, are about himself. He had worked hard to build a reputation, his name would cause many esteemed nobles to shake where they stood. He had taken Yunmeng, Yiling, and even Gusu. But yet, the name Yiling-Louzu is on everyone’s lips. He curses himself for not looking deeper into the Yiling-Louzu's identity when he had the chance. But he figures if the rumors are true, then he can still find him. And since the Yiling-Louzu is an enemy of the cultivation world, Wen Ruohan decides to make himself a friend.

I'd like to rec a fantastic new fic on ao3. It's so good, diverging au set during bm days and starts just before jin ling's 100 days. The imagery is vivid and great worldbuilding. Love that wwx also has established relationships with more than just jc in the Jiang sect - like there are other disciples there too who know wwx and have their own opinions of him.
