- Other things I like/have - I love collecting stuff especially Kpop albums and manga, I ADORE ROLLERCOASTERS (special interest of mine), love me some lego (flowers sets especially), have a crystal collection I do not know how to use (they're just pretty), I have a collection of signed books if that's something you find cool, i'm starting to gain a decent amount of plushies for the first time since I was young (many of them are Kirby), now I'm a pokemon card collector (my fav is Diancie).

Prince Sherlock has always been interested in maidens in perilous situations, or rather just the mysterious nature around their situations. As such, his relationships are fleeting - once the tale is unravelled, and he finds a new more exciting riddle elsewhere with a different maiden shrouded in mystery, he moves on. But at a masquerade ball he meets a different maiden, the only mystery being her true identity (hidden by magic), but his interest is more powerful than ever before. Charmed by witty banter, stimulating battles of deducation and undeniable romantic tension, he seeks out (only a simple clue to lead the way) and finds a poor yet striking young man by the name of William James (surname unknown) behind the facade. But for once, the interest doesn't disappear; in fact it strengthens more than ever before, almost synonymous with that idea of love he'd yet to feel prior. And William, originally sneaking into the ball thanks to his fascination with the life of the aristocracy, equally falls for the man's brilliant mind and beauty.

Meanwhile, his brother Prince Mycroft is expected to ascend the throne soon, and so is occasionally sent as a knight to rescue princesses in peril (hoping he will find a wife in the process). In his mind, he saves them as a duty to the people of the kingdom, and so shutting down any proposals and interest he is shown is the right thing to do. He already has a lot of responsibilities in the kingdom, essentially running a large aspect of it by now despite not having taken the mantle of king. One day, he finds a mysterious tower in the woods, the route to reach it precarious and requiring climbing an incredibly long head of chestnut hair. Inside sits not a young maiden, but a young man (going by the name of Albert Moriarty) who had been locked inside his whole life. This is the first time in his life Prince Mycroft has felt anything romantic toward someone he were to rescue (although he is very taken aback and nervous about it, unsure if he is allowed to act on such feelings), and Albert is immediately taken by his charm - but the process of rescue is not so simple. They communicate through letters, sent by carrier pigeon, plotting a way to free Albert from the chains of the Witch (who has convinced him he has committed terrible sin and the tower is his punishment or something like that, I don't know what character would fill that role).

Their endings are up for change, as it would act more as a resolution to their character flaws compared to Act 2's original approach (the fact they chase what they can't have rather than what they love and are doomed to repeat so for eternity). I could say I would want them to have a happy ending but Into the Woods isn't a story of the conventional type of happily ever after (that subversion is the entire point, I fear). So it has equal opportunity to be tragic or happy.

I see this action from William as a representation of his role as the controller of the narrative - the Lord of Crime, curating the story via his 'performances of crimes'. It links back to Op3's song 'Swirling Rondo', where Sherlock compares his chase after the Lord of Crime as a dance where he has written the music and chosen the steps Sherlock must take. William is partly in control of the music/stage (the plan/story) because it is of his own design. There is also the main instruments of the piano and violin - the piano soundtracks most of the shows, with the violin only being on stage/playing when Sherlock or any of his allies (Watson, Miss Hudson, etc) are on stage/singing. The violin represents Sherlock, and ergo the piano represents William and his control over the narrative.

For Op5 to have both William and Sherlock cue the end of the music is to place them both on the same level of control/understanding - standing on the same plain viewing the same horizon, as the manga and the Op5 song 'The Scarlet Thread'. Sherlock now fully understands the extent of William's plans and story, making the active decision to go against it in the end by trying to save him (Light in the Darkness, op5's act 1 closing number, also talks about this).

My interpretation of the reason neither of them usually start a number is likely because of the way they are usually ensemble first, although in Op5 it is William's presence alone on stage that acts as the start of the production. But also I think the emphasis on William usually ending the music rather than starting it is because he's always working towards a particular end goal - the end of the plan is his demise. There is no need to start the number because the elements of the plan were in motion so long ago, but he ends the numbers because he gradually brings himself ever closer to his own death.

A short analysis by me on the symbolism around their 'breakup' when Fukuchi heads off to war :)

Two things to correct - one: the quote should "Born on the battlefield" but the point still stands.

Two - multiple times in the manga politicians and fans refer to Fukuchi as a 'samurai' which adds to my point about samurai culture.

Anyways hope this is an interesting read.
