The problem is that Rolin Jones doesn't give a shit about Nicki as a character, and only took what he could from Nicki for the sake of fleshing out Louis.

What we thought were parallels were in fact plunder.

I know book Louis needed help, but it shouldn't be to the detriment of other characters.

Both Louis AND Nicki could have been characters that shared non-sexual intimacy. They both could have loved Lestat, and Lestat could have loved both of them.

Nicki died. Lestat could have still loved him and had a meaningful relationship with him AND love Louis.

The show just treated Nicki like a stepping stone, reducing him to his mental illness and that's that.

Ooooooooooooooooo.

Why does Lestat show so much animosity towards Armand pre-trial? Who knows. Can't be cause he kidnapped Nicki; he doesn't seem to give a shit about Nicki.

The music box? Never mattered.

The discrepancies from season 1 and 2? Irrelevant.

First love, great love thing? Err. What was that again?

The ring? Oh, this old thing? Got it off the Marquis de Sade.

Nicki's death must have been exactly as told in episode 3.

Why even have Muse Nicki in the first place if you weren't going to do anything with it? I guess we were just supposed to take things he said at face value. Lestat feels guilty because he didn't really love Nicki that much and he did cheat with Armand?

He does look at Nicki when he says that he "fostered suspicion and paranoia" but that could be about a number of things, such as hiding his vampirism. Effing around all day, only coming at night.

They've laid it on stupidity thick with the 'Lestat totally got together with Armand' stuff that if we aren't supposed to believe it's true than they must think we're stupid.

Like, why the fuck wouldn't Louis just say Armand in the car then? Because the writers are trying to be cute? He has no problem saying Armand later. And Louis met Armand as part of the theater, so why would he be that hesitant to just say Armand if he and Lestat did found the theater? Why?!?

Argh!!

These were words spoken by Nicki in the book and they were the first words spoken by Lestat (in French) in the show.

At the time we all thought it was a reference to Nicki. A callback to when he recieved the wolf killer cloak and Nicki defended him against the ridicule of his older brother.

Now I think it's only importance is the first words Lestat and Louis spoke to each other in the show, and that is that.

Rolin's comments in the After Dark for episode 3 have enlightened me.

There he said this:

"...but I think that there are a lot of some Anne's most beautiful writing on that story you actually look at it dramatically we hit a lot of those beats with Louis and so what I wanted what we were really interested in what- what's left over and how can we- what, you know-"

'Hit those beats with Louis.' Having to look at 'what's left over'.

To me that suggests that yes, they were not interested in Nicki as a fully realized character at all.

So I think the "only the impossible can do the impossible" was one of those beats that he TOOK from Nicki - not a reference.

(I realize he says 'dramatically' as in the themes present but I believe the point still stands)

I also believe the bench conversations call back to another Nicki/Lestat beat: "Our Conversation". Since we barely learn anything about Nicki and Lestat's mortal relationship, even if that was a thing, it is something completely non-existent in the show, so essentially it only exists as another beat given to Louis.

It is really hard for me to be interested in episode 7, even seeing human Nicki, when you know that there is a zero percent chance there will be enough time to gather the meager scraps we were given into a satisfying conclusion. If we can even call them that.

The music box doesn't exist/doesn't matter. The first love/great love. The ring. All this "build-up" to nothing.

As I said, we will see the truth to Nicki's death and that'll be the best we can hope for. Because if they do change it to Nicki being fridged by Armand they can at least justify the screen time as fleshing out the Armand/Lestat dynamic. It has zero to do with Nicki himself as a person/character.

It's because they ARE going to hit us with a blink and you'll miss it montage of 3 second clips telling us that nowaitNickiwastotallyimportanttrustusguys after we learn pretty much what we all already suspected: Nicki was left at the theater with Armand and Lestat feels guilty that he wasn't there when he died. Remember what Rolin said? Joseph Potter's acting is so good you only need 3 second clips! Less is more as they say!

(Yes, Joseph Potter's acting IS good and the only reason any of the show only people might find Nicki endearing at all)

if they ARE going to try and have Lestat deny the cheating allegations from Nicki (which at this point I'm not even entirely sure that they are) it'll probably be Lestat saying 'no I didn't' and no one will believe him anyway.

Because what ELSE are they going to do? Have another flashback? In MY episode 7? What indication do I have that the mind gift induced non-consensual book encounter happened in the show? I mean, Gabriella mentioned Armand not being the only one Lestat shares blood with and we all know how big on consent SHE is (not at all).

It is in this montage we will be lucky to see the music box for the first time all season. The music box that was supposedly so important that Lestat allegedly buried himself with it but the whole thing will be over so quickly that it won't have any weight. Because Nicki wasn't given any weight.

You can't just throw a bunch of spaghetti at the wall at the eleventh hour and expect people that haven't read the books to care.

And people that HAVE read the books will just be sad instead.

But after what they did to Hit the Lights I think that's the best we can hope for. Episode 7 has too many other things we know it is going to do, and has to do, to hope for any better.

We know Rolin also lied about season 4 being TVL part 2. Season 4 is Queen of the Damned.

For Nicki fans, season 3 has unironically made things worse for them; he is not haunting the narrative nearly as much as we thought.

The show has refused to look at Nicolas as his own fully fledged character and has downplayed his importance at every opportunity. OF COURSE show only people aren't going to think of him.

That's on the writers and a single episode isn't going to fix it.

Armand was also referred to as 'maître' by Nicki himself. Is that supposed to be more intentional blurring of the lines? That won't pay off? Or will eventually just confirm what the show is telling us? Because Episode 7 has other things it needs to do - like, you know, probably have Lestat taken by Akasha since next season is Queen of the Damned.

At this point I'd believe that he IS referring to Armand. 🙄

What doubts has she ever had? She has always known she didn't want to be a wife and a mother. Just because society forced her to be those things doesn't mean she ever had doubts about who SHE was as a person - that's why she felt so liberated as a vampire!

When has she ever lost touch with the things she cared about? Never. She cared about her books and herself. That's it. She only gives the occasional illusion of caring about Lestat because she sees him as an extension of herself.

When has she ever needed cheering up? "Used to" implies that it worked at SOME point. This is a woman who probably had the most cheerful experience of her life when she left her three year old son by a river!

And what melody does SHE have to run through Lestat's mind? When has she ever been associated to music? Never.

People focus on the "by candlelight you used to teach me how to kiss line" but that is immediately followed by "I thought we made it out" implying that it occurred AFTER they made it out. AFTER the Auvergne. And who else has mentioned teaching? Another male figure in Lestat's life (contrasting with the older brother)?

Nicki.

Letters were important to their story in the book, not to mention the lines TAKEN from the book about Nicki's death.

All the clues and hints and foreshadowing we thought was there - Nicki's ring, the mysterious omission of the music box, the discrepancies between S1 and S2, Muse Nicki calling Lestat out, etc. In the end it all turned out to be...

A nothingness.
