So, I was thinking of when Tara mentioned Gale was letting himself go.

What if he was withering away instead of gaining weight? Like the orb was eating away his body? It was already greying his hair, and he had wrinkles and eyebags. It would make sense for it to sap every ounce out of him. I came to this conclusion because his camp shirt is folded in the back due to the belt.
