Nah Steve let them go on their own. Soon after the zombie siege fallout, they built a golem using Polly’s shoddily-carved pumpkin and iron from Steve’s iron supply, and Nil set out into the wilderness with it, essentially soul-searching after all of this.
Polly has nowhere to go, and instead of trying to get revenge on Steve again and probably dying like everyone else, they decide to redirect their violence elsewhere and use it to protect Nil on their journey. Nil did... not ask for this. But what the hell. Sure.
Steve promised to try and restore the village as much as possible, was responded with an eyeroll from Nil, and remains to do so.
