The Raiders keep watch and prepare for a Piglin attack on their near-ready Portal.

Common enemies, uncommon allies...

Having received the news of Grand Brute's plans for the Overworld from Glen - Eve chooses to spare Polly, under the condition they step back in line and help hold off the Piglins.

EVE.

Previously, in a hostile confrontation between the Raiders and Piglins, the Totem was lost amidst the chaos, and got picked up by a certain piglet.

Although the Totem is still missing, Eve now has the ingredient needed to charge it - a sacrificial soul - so that it can do what it was designed to; counter death. And the more scared the soul is- the livelier!

This doodle is set in the "Illager Statue Room" from the Woodland Mansion. It's a giant effigy of an Illager looming over the room, to represent their Tribe and lineage of leaders and ancestors.

This is a scene after Polly is released by Nil and has returned to the Mansion. They give the report of the Raid, that everyone perished to the Hero and they were the only survivor, that it was a failure, and that they shouldn't go to that Village again.

So glad someone asked-

Totems work for anyone. In game, if you give a mob a Totem and kill it, it will be revived just like Steve would. The reason Totems don't work for Evokers, is because they're not charged.

To charge one, you gotta give it a living sacrifice so it traps their soul inside it.

Raids themselves are not just for looting, but are giant sacrifice rituals. For both Totems and just because Illagers are all about ritualistic killing. You will be sacrificed for our glorious crusade against the world!!

However this also makes it so that during Raids, the Evokers themselves end up the sacrifices...

Both Illager and Villager souls can work. (Piglins could as well, but nobody has ever tried)

Villagers preferred cuz those guys are strange natural aptitude towards life. They have a chance of circumventing death and becoming undead upon a zombie attack, and their lifestyle is marked by hard work and survival.

It is unknown if the souls inside the totems are still conscious.

It never works on trapping Steve's 'soul'... seems that they don't have anything like that at all...

The Brutes intercept bartering between their own and the Overworlders, and the Grand Brute gets an idea.

The Raiders take on the Nether Fortress, bartering and a surprise encounter...

Having remembered that Piglins can be swayed with gold, Nil gives the Raiders an idea, but it takes some convincing and even more bluffing...

(flashback...)

The Vindicators clear out the remaining Hoglins from the Piglins' attack on their occupied Bastion, meanwhile Glen tries to convince the Brutes that the attack was a bad idea. They're just panicking villagers, right?

(but the others just make fun of Glen's newest 'Overworld pet' who won't stop growling and hissing at everyone)

The Raiders (and their Ravager) regroup after pushing back against the Piglins. After seeing the Ravager in action once more, Nil asks Wirt about it. And then they decide that maybe they don't need to know everything.

The Piglins make a push, and the Raiders fire back.

Side notes: The Bastion that the Raiders took over is the Bridge Bastion. Witches tend to carry gunpower with them to use for splash potions, and firework rockets are crafted from paper and gunpowder.

Polly and Glen team up to rescue Nil from their own respective kinds. Eve does some exploration in the depths of Bastion Remnants...
