Star Chasers

Hey! We're Kat and Ant (Katherine and Anthony). We are the creators of Star Chasers, something we hope to make into a comic/cartoon very soon! We're still in the phase of getting everything out of our heads and into writing, and we're very excited to share our story with you!

        Star Chasers follows the spacefaring adventures of Dash Phaser, Andromeda “Andy” Saros, Andy’s Watcher, Tigris, a round cat-like creature called Poodge, and a small robotic bear named Boopis. Dash is overconfident, great at sweet-talking, and a sharpshooter. His main weapon is a gun, so he fights more with his legs to keep his hands free, resulting in a unique, flowing fighting style. His past is murky, and it seems his stories and explanations are ever changing. He crewed on pirate Captain Darius Resurger's ship for a few years, learning how to swindle, steal, and shoot.

       Dash’s pride and impatience often lead the gang into tight situations. Fortunately, his intelligence and resourcefulness usually allow him to formulate a solid escape plan and save the day. Dash is a good leader, and he and his girlfriend Andromeda work well together. His prized possessions are his Icarus boots, which allow him to run at alarming speeds. One could say he's good at running from things, especially things that he can't handle.

      Like the fact this his captain stabbed him in the back. Having decided that Dash was more trouble than he was worth, Captain Resurger ran him through with his cutlass before shoving him into an escape pod and ejecting him into space. Dash found himself bleeding to death, alone. He survived the three-day trip to the planet Zilarra, where he found medical attention and a sweet underground fighting ring.

      Andromeda started her independent life to escape what could be called an arranged, permanent marriage. After a few weeks of living on her own, then-12-year-old Andy was taken under the wing of a kind old medic she came to call Tio. He trained her in medicine, survival, hand-to-hand combat, and even the culinary arts. He often chided Andy for being stubborn, reckless, and quick to anger. He also helped her realize that it’s okay to be a sensitive person, even if it’s behind a tough facade. Andy loves fixing things, and gets irrationally upset when she can’t - she takes disappointment quite harshly.

      Andy was 17 when Tio died. She followed his advice and began searching for a place where she was needed (or, if all else fails: at least something that pays). She also met her Watcher, Tigris, who helped her find the underground fighting arenas of the Ares sector - more specifically, planet Zilarra. The fights are great fun, as long as you’re comfortable running the risk of Solar Warden (intergalactic police forces) barging in on the show. Here, Andy honed her fighting skills and met her best friend and greatest rival, the CEO of the fighting rings, Titanium Max Terrera.

      At the age of 21, she met Dash Phaser. Over the course of the next several weeks, they became quite close, and Dash began to itch for an adventure to share with his newfound crew (read as: new girlfriend and her giant glowing bodyguard). When they steal the fastest spaceship in the sector, they end up with more than they bargained for. A small, fuzzy bear is locked in a cage onboard the ship. His name becomes Boopis, since that's all he can say. And he happens to be the most wanted lifeform in the universe.

                                    Now for some worldbuilding...

                                   The Vault of 1,000 Suns

      The origin of the universe and the only place that a new universe can be created. Nothing is free, however – the price of creating a new universe is destroying your old one. A small sacrifice, for some, to be the god of their own infinite domain. It has been sought by explorers and greedy businessmen for eons, but no one had managed to find even a clue before the team realized that Boopis contains an incomplete map to the Vault.

                                            Star Seeds

        Small pieces of the very first star that ever formed in this universe. When Boopis eats one, a part of the map to the Vault of 1,000 Suns is restored. This is also his energy source (he is a robot, after all). There are countless star seeds scattered over the Seven Sectors, so the Star Chasers are going to have a heck of a time tracking them all down! Especially since they aren’t the only ones hunting seeds...

                                           The Void King

       This man is not to be trifled with. He comes from a different dimension, somehow managing to survive in The Void between this dimension and his own. He did more than just survive, though - he also gained incredible power and the ability to bestow that power upon others. Unfortunately, the nature of The Void is give and take. In exchange for his power, he lost his humanity. His skin grew withered and charred, shrinking tightly against his bones. Determined to survive, he salvaged bits of gold (leftover from the ancient Nunuki War) into armor.

      He is now a walking corpse, draped with gold. And his infamy precedes him, especially for Dash. He'd heard countless sailors' tales about The Void King’s ruthless conquest of nations in his search for the Vault. The Void King's soldiers (known as Withered) carry the odor of burnt flesh with them wherever they go as they scour the universe for clues as to the Vault's location. No one truly knows why, but it seems that he wants to destroy this universe and make a new one for his own denizens to thrive in. He already knows that star seeds are a big part of the puzzle – it’s only a matter of time before he finds out about Boopis. He and his Withered army will likely take control of and unmake the universe soon if someone doesn’t stop them.

       There's so much more to our story that we are excited to tell you about! This year we plan on sending out our Pitch Bible to different studios. Sadly, we can't really draw (we're writers and filmmakers though!) so this page will also be for seeking out artists to help us with certain drawings we need, or if you want to get to know the content a bit. Andromeda Marie Saros was born on a tiny planet on the border of the Ares and Hades sectors called Anam. It's quite unique in that it is totally isolated from the rest of the universe, thanks to advanced planetary cloaking technology. Anam's citizens are completely unaware of the existence of other planets, not to mention the myriad lifeforms that inhabit them. 

Anam’s governing body, a supercomputer/goddess named M.O.I.R.A. (Meta-Organic Intelligent Reproductive Apotheon),  oversees the creation of new Anamans. She gives them each a name, and a dull mark on their left wrist. The marks are generally a series of geometric shapes intersecting each other; each complex and unique, matching only one other mark. The owners of two matching marks are called 'tethers' - they are to be pulled together by fate and destined to cherish and protect one another for the rest of their lives.

At least that’s the theory. Andy was never one for fate - she was often chided by her mother and teachers alike for being stubborn, reckless, and quick to anger. Tigris was Andy’s sparring partner, coach, voice of reason, bodyguard, yogi, and biggest fan during this time. Andy quickly earned the nickname “La Pantera” for her vicious, powerhouse fighting style. She fought in the rings for 4 years, building quite the name for herself and even challenging Max for the championship belt a few times. Andy held her own in the first two fights, but both times was worn out by Titanium Max’s incredible strength (she’s an android, which is only a little unfair) by the third round.

The third fight, she was determined to win the belt as a birthday gift to herself. Max scheduled their fight on Andy’s 21st birthday so they could at least spend some time together (they’re both very busy women), and that made Andy more determined than ever to beat her best friend’s ass. 

This “Championship Fight for the Ages” was the fight that made Dash decide to approach Andromeda (and hopefully leave with her number instead a stab wound). He foolishly tried to lift something valuable-looking from her bag; which is how he found out just how heavy La Pantera’s hands really are. Andy explained that whatever he wanted with her would have to wait until after she’d kicked his ass. They fought heatedly, and she was impressed by how easily he dodged her attacks with his loose bobbing and swaying. Chemistry was built during that fight - she, the raging whitewater; and he, the easy-flowing current. 

Dash Phaser (The Captain): Dash is a 20 year-old black human male with warm mid-tone skin, silver hair and eyes, and a charismatic yet cocky personality. Daily, he wears a black shirt and brown bomber jacket with dark blue pants. He's overconfident, great at sweet-talking, and a sharpshooter. His main weapon is a gun, so he fights more with his legs to keep his hands free, resulting in a unique, flowing fighting style.       Andromeda Marie Saros (The Medic): Andy is a 20 year-old ambiguously brown human female with hazel eyes and a mane of curly hair that she usually keeps tied up in a bun on top of her head. Her usual outfit includes a blue tank top, black leggings (with hand-sewn pockets) heavy boots, a backpack, and a silk scarf given to her by her boyfriend Dash. She grew up on a planet that shelters its people from the rest of the universe, and has limited knowledge on many things. She struggles with naivety, stubbornness, and second-guessing herself often. She usually falls back on logic and her gut feeling to keep her grounded – but if all else fails, she can always rely on her sword. When she fled her planet, she was found by a kind old man that took her in and taught her the ways of the galaxy. She called him Tío, and studied medicine under him (informally, of course,) from the ages of 12-17. As a result, she has fairly in-depth medical and survival training and an accurate sense of direction. He also taught Andy the art of cooking (something she already loved doing with her mom), including how to tell which plants/animal parts are edible and how to compliment them in a dish.

 Tigris (The Watcher): Tigris is 6 and a half feet tall, and her skin glows a soft yellow. She wears a simple white shift and an intricately beaded necklace. Her hair is long, straight, and purple. A golden staff is her weapon of choice, and she uses it quite efficiently. She also practices martial arts and meditation. If it wasn't entirely obvious by now, she's not human – at least, not anymore. She is the embodiment of a hero's spirit; an ancient hero who died protecting her people and was, consequently, given the choice of becoming a Watcher (an extradimensional being who protects people for a living). She is patient, loves learning and discovering new things, and must protect Andromeda at all costs. Generally, she takes things literally and has difficulty understanding satire and subtle humor.

 Poodge (The Cat): Poodge is a round creature with grey fur and cat-like features (both physically and emotionally). His appendages are very short, so he developed weak telekinesis to reach things his pitters (limbs) can't. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of brain power, so he limits his telekinesis usage when possible. He gets around by rolling – sometimes in what is basically a glorified, gyroscopically stable hamster ball. He talks in the third person and decides on a whim whether or not he wants to help the team – a lot of the time he's just not in the mood. A few of his favorite things to do are: pitter (finger) paint, roll in substances with interesting textures, spin in circles, and wear costumes. The costumes are actually quite elaborate, and he takes his role-playing pretty seriously. Sometimes, his costumes grant him powers (i.e. Carpenter Poodge can build things quickly, Pharmacist Poodge sells medication, etc.)

 Boopis (The Robo-bear): Boopis is a small, robotic bear (about the size of a teddy bear) who can only say "Boopis." Basically a young child, he's curious and easily attached to things (namely his friends and favorite toys). He's the most wanted bear in the Universe because he holds both the map and the key to the Vault of 1,000 Suns. Boopis runs on an ancient energy, the only known source of which are star seeds (pieces of the first star to ever form in this Universe). When Boopis eats a star seed, a portion of the map to the Vault is revealed. Star seeds are scattered throughout the Universe, often becoming sacred artifacts and therefore difficult to obtain.

The creator of the universe, master of dimensions, giver of fates is known as Alseer. Alseer created the planets, orbits, asteroids, stars, black holes - every celestial body. But then when he stepped back to view his creation, he saw a vast plane devoid of life. He decided it needed more - and he needed help.

Alseer built great automatons known as the Nunuki to help him flesh out the universe in incredible detail. The Nunuki fabricated the flora and fauna, filled the oceans, and eventually got bored of helping and began to pursue their own interests.

They created philosophy and science, feeding their mechanical brains with infinite knowledge. They began to experiment; specifically, they wanted slave laborers that were smarter than animals but not as smart as them. So they made humans. 

Alseer popped in one day to see how his creations were doing and was impressed by the Nunuki’s ‘humans’. The slaves were peak biological design - strong, tireless, brainless, unaware and unable to do anything but what they are assigned. The Nunuki had been experimenting particularly on the first two specimens they created. After observing the two humans, Alseer decides to  fiddle around with them a bit. He gives them free will, sentience, dreams, motivation, passion, love, hate, jealousy, fear; everything that makes humans interesting. 

While this was happening, the Nunuki were fighting amongst themselves. They warred over valuable, attractive things (like gold and diamonds) because they love adorning themselves. In fact, they basically depleted all the natural resources in the known universe, with the most powerful group of Nunuki hogging it all for themselves. The resulting war lasted eons. 

In the meantime, the Nunuki had isolated the two test subjects that were given free will in a large observatory dome. Inside the dome was a small living space, a pond, and a massive tree. It was explained to the inhabitants that the fruit of that tree is the rarest and most powerful food in existence. The two were given a choice - live as they are, or partake of the fruit.

After giving the two humans sentience, Alseer left and began ‘working on other canvases’ (creating different realities/dimensions). When he came back to this universe and saw the ravages of the Nunuki’s war, he was heartbroken. All the time, energy, resources, planning, and faith that Alseer had put into his creation; ruined. Quickly, his heartbreak turned to rage. He grew to 20 times his size and wiped out the Nunuki completely. He swept them into the Void and they (and their golden adornments) liquidized. 

After his rampage, Alseer was filled with guilt and remorse. He saw how pitiable the humans were (semi-sentient husks that didn’t eat, drink, sleep, or even perceive their own existence). In a blast of energy, he gave them all of the wonderful things that he had given Atom and Cella (for those are the names the two isolated human test subjects had chosen for themselves). More importantly, he gave them variety - in personality, build, genetics, biological structure, habitats, abilities, etc. And suddenly there weren’t just humans! All kinds of humanoid aliens and creatures were filled with life and vigor.

Dash Edward Phaser

Dash Phaser is a 20-year-old marksman, captain, strategist, former pirate, and smooth-talker. He's a tall, lanky black man with neutral mid-tone skin and silver hair and eyes (and two earrings in his left earlobe). He’s cocky, charming, intelligent, and has incredible aim. When asked about his past, Dash's stories are everchanging, unbelievable, off the cuff, and sometimes downright foul. But there is one story he'll go to any length to avoid telling: the truth.

Generally, when asked about his past, Dash would either deflect the question or offer up an unbelievable story. Eventually, though, he felt comfortable enough with Andy to confide in her a bit of his honest past. His family was just like any other family - eventually, he got bored and began to feel trapped. He decided to expand his horizons, hotwiring a ship and leaving his home behind. 

He wandered for a while, searching for adventure. And adventure he found! More specifically in the flavors of piracy, thievery, and pillaging. He crewed with the infamous pirate, Captain Darius Resurger – "Plague of the Seven Sectors". Dash looked up to his captain because Resurger was everything he wanted to be – free, powerful, boisterous, intimidating, a great shot. But most of all, Captain Resurger took whatever he wanted, when he wanted it, and always managed to sail away with hefty bags of gold and jewels.

Just a heads up: we’re still in the process of trying to get this whole world out of our heads and onto paper. Things are subject to change, many things already have, and many things we don’t have nailed down yet. So if the writing is kind of rough with placeholder terms and whatnot, bare with us!
