Finally you’re out of the dorm life and into your own home, you’ve been saving up like crazy for this place with you, Nobara, and Maki. Sure you’re all kinda extra broke now, but whatever. You can afford your share of the rent with your part time job. But it’s just you, your friends and the stray cat you found in a dumpster, and impulsively kept. It’s in a nice spot, and all your neighbors are warm and welcoming! Well- almost all…
I don’t plan on making you cry, fluff, modern au, slowburn srry not srry, cussing if you don't like that
“Finallyyy, I’m so glad we were able to afford this place,” Nobara yawns, stretching before letting herself flop back onto the couch you were all lucky to have found at some ma and pa thrift store; that you all weren’t exactly sure how you found the place.
The couch sat at an odd angle, not having a permanent residence in the wide-open floor plan where the kitchen onlooked the living room with an island to create an illusion of separation. Boxes were stacked neatly in organized piles, thanks to you labeling them before you all moved, and to the extra hands your neighbors lended you guys.
Maki sat on the island countertop scrolling absentmindedly on her phone, a coffee mug next to her. You weren’t exactly sure when she even had time to unpack the coffee machine.
“Yeah, thankfully the area’s nice and the neighbors are welcoming,” you add, slipping on your running shoes.
Charlotte, your cat who you found in the dumpsters during your 1 year of college, was pacing impatiently at the front door.
You were working a late shift, when you went to take out the garbage and hear the faint mewling of a frantic kitten. You then pulled out a small little malnourished kitten. She looked like a calico cat, with part of her left ear missing. She stole your heart right that instant, and you knew that even if it killed your wallet, she was yours. At least according to the law of the cat distribution system.
Luckily Nobara started a go fund me for the kitten, and you were able to have enough money to pay for everything, thank God. The cat had weaved its way into all of your lives, in many ways from; you all doting on the cat endlessly, to the ones who knew the cat existed not know who the cat was even supposed to belong to, to posting the cat on all of your social medias.
Charlotte seemed to favor you most though. You were the one who named her after all; it only seemed fair.
Maki looked up from her phone, sleep still lingering behind her gaze.
“I made enough coffee for all of us if you want any after your walk,”
“Thanks,” you smile before clipping the leash onto Charlottes baby pink harness.
“Thanks for taking Charlotte out today,” Nobara almost breaks the olympic medal for shooting up from the couch after hearing the words coffee and meandering her way over to the barren kitchen, with the lone coffee machine. The house smelled deliciously of young girls' dreams, new beginnings, and the aromatic smell of coffee.
“Haha, no problem, but you’re taking her out tomorrow,” you say as you open the door, Charlotte almost shooting out.
Nobara lifts her hand up in response, not turning to face you.
The chilly morning breeze hits you and your shiver farther into your oversize jacket, like somehow it will hide you away from the cold.
Charlotte prances ahead of you: her head held high. Proud of whatever accomplishments she plans on achieving for today.
You yawned, your breath slightly fogging in front of you. The kind of yawn that forces your eyes closed.
Then you felt it; Charlotte curled around your leg, her back bowed, and her hair standing tall. You looked up and saw two large dogs, maybe some wolf dog breed? One was white and the other one was black. They just stared curiously at the startled Charlotte, lifting their noses to smell the air.
Then you saw him. Tall, dark, and incredibly handsome. You would be lying if you said your breath didn’t hitch when you saw him. You don’t remember seeing him among your neighbors who helped you, but maybe he lived nearby? But you definitely know you’ve seen him around campus before, but you knew one thing for sure; he was hot as hell.
Though he did have the most unbothered face you have ever seen, the kind of face that screamed, “I don’t give a fuck, leave me alone.” Perfect, just your type.
Did you listen to the way he looked at you condescendingly as he lazily turned his attention to you? Absolutely not!
You’ve never had the chance to talk to him before, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.
“Hey! I think we go to the same college! Do you by chance live around here?” You asked, tucking your hair behind your ear with your free hand.
“Uh, yeah I live right next to you actually,” He commented nodding towards the house behind him. You hadn’t made it very far from your home before you ran into him.
“Oh? I didn’t see you when we were moving in, I didn’t know you were roommates with Yuta and the others,” Or that he was friends with any of them, you were definitely asking Maki about him later. You blush slightly; you aren’t sure if it’s from embarrassment or the butterflies.
“Oh yeah, I just didn’t feel like helping, didn’t seem necessary y’know?” He shrugs a puff of his breath fanning out in front of him.
Okay, that was kinda rude- but it would be rude to judge so quickly-, you think briefly before responding.
“Yeah, we had a lot of help,” you put on a fake smile, but you wanted to keep this dreadfully awkward conversation going, and have it turn more, well- casual?
“Did you want to walk with me?” You asked, thinking it might help with the awkwardness, and give you a chance to grow closer to him.
Megumi looked down and noticed Charlotte, who was cautiously approaching his dogs.
“Is that a cat?” He asked; he sounded snarky. Like it was wrong to walk a cat. Your heart sank a little.
“Uh- yes? Is something wrong with that?” you huffed.
He shrugged, but before he could answer. One of his dogs, the white one, nipped a little at Charlotte. Causing her to nearly go flying back towards you with a hiss, her response causing his dogs to jump back. You both tightened your hold on your leashes, as you swept Charlotte into your arms. She was shaking.
“Watch out for your cat, some dogs aren’t friendly to them, try to be careful,” He almost muttered, petting his surprised dogs.
You, however, did not hear those words clearly.
Maybe if was the lack of sleep, the new semester starting soon, or the lack of coffee to fuel your system, or the soreness from moving in; but you were at your breaking point, your blood was boiling, as you snapped.
“Can you get your dogs under control? Also, for your information, there is nothing wrong with walking a cat,” you turned on your feet and walked away. Leaving a stunned and confused Megumi.
Poor Megumi had no idea what he did wrong, or what all of a sudden dampened your bubbly mood. Maybe Shiro scared you? He’ll have to apologies later.
“Bad Shiro,” me muttered to the just as clueless white dog before returning to his walk, going in the opposite direction.
You slam the door shut behind your, clicking off Charlottes harness as she scurries away to hide from your furry. Thankfully, the walk helped you burn off some steam.
“Woah, you okay,” Maki asked, walking out of her room after hearing the commotion and Charlotte who zoomed into her room for cover.
“No, I ran into some asshole neighbor,” you fume.
“Who, omg you need to tell me, all our neighbors seemed so nice,” Nobara emerged from somewhere.
“No, we haven’t met him yet. He’s roommates with Yuta, Inumaki, and that Yuji kid,” you wave, aggressively sliding your shoes onto the new addition of the shoe rack by the entryway.
“Oh yeah I forgot they had another roommate, I honestly don’t remember his name though,” Maki’s eyebrows raised.
“What did he do? Tell me what he looked like,” Nobara cut off Maki fumbling to pull out her phone. To which Maki just rolled her eyes, making her way to the kitchen to start making your usual coffee.
“Idk, I kinda asked why he wasn’t with his roommates helping us move in, and he said- ‘I didn’t feel like helping, and it didn’t seem necessary’” you said in a deep mocking voice, an obviously overexaggerated version of his voice.
“Oh wow,” Maki almost hummed under breath as she slid you your coffee in your favorite bunny mug, to which you snatch almost jerkily, taking a long swig.
“What else?” Nobara asked impatiently while you were taking your angry drink, your nerves starting to set back on fire.
“He saw Charlotte and said, ‘Is that a cat?’ almost like it had somehow offended him!” Nobara nodded along eager for the tea, “Then I asked if it was a problem, then his dog tried to attack poor Charlotte, and all he said was, ‘Watch out for your cat, you shouldn’t be walking your cat like this, it upsets dogs’ or something like that!” to which did not actually happen. He did however tell his dog to stop being excited, and to be careful when walking your cat around dogs. Which you did not catch in your anger and only caught snippets and made your own angry conclusion of what he said.
“What a jackass,” Maki said, picking up Charlotte who decided to make an appearance at Maki’s feet, having heard her name. She rubbed herself against Maki, giving a soft meow for her food.
“That guy said that? Nuh-uh, tell me what he looked like right now!” Nobara started quickly typing in Yuji’s insta to look at his page.
“He had spiky black hair that literally look like a sea urchin, he had a bitchy resting face, he was as pale as a vampire, and he was tall- and insanely attractive-” you kind of trail off remembering how hot he was, which briefly muddled your anger, before it reignited with how stupidly handsome he was for being an ass.
Nobara and Maki chose to ignore your compliment.
“Sounds like one hell of a person to find out in the wild, can’t believe I didn’t remember one of Yuta’s friends with sea urchin hair,” Maki broke your train of thought with the soft clink of Charlottes bowl being set down, and her quiet nomb nomb nomb.
“Found him, his name is Megumi Fushiguro, he’s around the same age as us, he was born December 22- gah he’s a Capricorn of course he is- must being a condescending, know-it-all prick,” you and Maki turn your attention to her, you both should be scared of her detective skills, but after knowing her so long you’re not.
“His moms died in childbirth and his dad was obviously a dead beat based on the fact he was adopted by one of the teachers here, that explains a lot. He has mommy and daddy issues- sheesh,” Nobara finishes her work with a soft throw of her phone, which lands on the couch that now had a new location in the room.
“Which teacher is it?” Maki asked, crossing her arms, nodding at the new information.
“Saturo Gojo,” Nobara said before adding, “Get this, Gojo was a police officer when he first adopted Megumi, but then quit for some reason and became a teacher,”
“What really? Do you think you can figure out why he quit?” You asked, becoming invested.
“I tried, but it was information that wasn’t released to the public,” Nobara sighed, sitting on the couch.
“But we do know we hate this sea urchin prick,” Maki tried to circle back the topic to where it originally started.
“Yeah, that's right we do,” you huffed at remembering how you all got onto this topic, before taking another sip of your coffee.
“Omg, do you think we can convince Yuji to let us sneak into Megumi’s room and put lemons in his curtain rod?” Nobara giggled mischievously.
“Won’t his roommates have to deal with the aftermath of it as well?” Maki reminded Nobara that Megumi wouldn’t be the only one suffering.
“Plus, I don’t think Yuji would help. The one most likely to help and not snitch is Inumaki for sure,” you added to which Maki nodded in agreement.
“Ughhh, you guys are not fun, but I guess you’re not wronggg. I’ll try to come up with something else we could do,” Nobara rolled her eyes and sighed.
“You know karma’s a bitch too, right?” Maki added, trying not to have a repeat of all the times Nobara sought revenge for herself. Both you and Maki slightly shivered at the memories.
“Yeah, maybe we should just leave it to karma,” you add. Trying to also avoid that headache, you had all just moved here, and both you and Maki did not want to make enemies so soon. Especially since most of all your neighbors have been so welcoming.
“Now you guys are just being extra boring, but fine I’ll leave it to karma, for now..” She had a look in her eyes that said she already had a plan, but at least that was as close to an agreement as you and Maki were going to get.
Well with the semester starting back, and being mostly moved into your new home, you had almost forgotten all about your run in with Megumi.
That was until all of you were leaving the house to make your way to campus, and as you locked the door and turned around, you saw him. Urchin hair, scowl, and all.
“Oh, good morning you guy!” Yuji waved a little across the way, his usual chipper smile.
“Good morning,” Nobara and Maki both grumble. You, however, don’t respond. Instead, you just glare at Megumi, who feels your piercing gaze, and his gaze locks onto yours. His eyebrows shot up.
“Oh, you guys probably haven’t met our other roommate yet. This is Megumi Fushi-” Yuji starts, but you cut him off.
“Oh, I’ve met him alright,” you almost spit out, your distain obvious on your face.
Everyone's attention turns to the taken aback Megumi, who is surprised by your hostility.
His roommates' eyes scream, "what did you do?” But he didn’t know himself.
“Hey, listen I’m sorry about-” but you cut him off.
“I don’t want to hear it. Let’s go guys,” you turn on your feet, walking away before giving Megumi a chance to respond. Maki and Nobara follow behind, they both look over their shoulders to shoot Megumi a quick death glare.
As they walk away, his roommates look back at him, and surprisingly; Inumaki is the first to break the strained silence.
“What the hell did you do to y/n?”
“Yeah, I’ve never seen her be mean- like- ever,” Yuta added, since he had been hanging around their group for a couple years, given he was dating Maki.
“Hell, if I know, I think I might have scared her off with Shiro a couple days ago,” he shrugged, unsure of what made you hate him.
They all just looked at him with unbelieving eyes, since they’ve all bore witness to him accidentally coming across as an asshole on several occasions.
“I can’t believe he was acting like he had no idea what he did!” Nobara practically shouted, a couple heads turned in your groups direction.
“I know! You were right, he was a complete asshole,” Maki adds crossing her arms.
“See? I told you, did Yuta ever talk about how much of a jerk he was before?” You asked, slightly turning your head to look at Maki.
“No, not really. He mostly just said Megumi was kind of a distant guy and could easily come off as a jerk. Anytime I was around him, he mostly kept to himself, and didn’t talk much,” Maki seemed to tilt her head, trying to remember anything memorable about Megumi.
“Ew, don’t call him by his name, he’s urchin,” Nobara corrects.
Maki lazily lifts her hands defensively.
“Sigh, at least he keeps to himself. That means we won’t have to run into him often,” you remark, thankful not to have to deal with him.
“You’re telling me. Anyway, this is where we part ways. See you guys later,” Maki waves as she veers off the path to head to her class.
“Same here, have a good first day girl! And don’t let that urchin hair get you down, you’re way to pretty for that,” Nobara also waves her goodbyes as she almost hops away.
You just wave, smiling. Now it's just you and your thoughts.
You push open the door to you lecture hall, and make your way to a seat in the back and shrug off your cute leather bag, with historical charms, and slid it onto your seat before you plop down with a poof of your jeans as air escapes from the sudden lack of space.
“Oh, hey-,” you hear a familiar uncertain alto voice that makes your heart skip a beat, as you look over you see him- urchin.
Oh, you’ve got to be fucking kidding me!
@puxigumi sorry for the wait, I hope you like it! (*^ω^*)♡
Thank you guys for reading, I will be making a material list!
