Finally watching Work It because the entire cast is hot and the bisexual panic of both Jordan Fisher and Sabrina Carpenter is all I need to make me watch a movie and it's cute so far and I like it, it's basically the exact plot of an episode of South Park but self aware enough to be silly goofy fun I like it and the scenes where Jordan Fisher and Sabrina Carpenter are dancing all sexy is gonna kill me
I love how bitchy Keiynan Lonsdale's character is
And I always forget how good of an actress Sabrina Carpenter is. I don't know anything about dancing but I find it enjoyable in a way that's similar to Bring It On where I'm enjoying myself without giving a shit about the dance but also so far it's pretty good but I wouldn't say as good as Bring It On
I'd Jordan Fisher ever decides to divorce his wife and decides his grad school principal for one year's step daughter is his dream girl then boy will I have great news for him

JENNIFER'S BODY
2009, dir. Karyn Kusama
Project Hail Mary (2026) dir. Phil Lord & Chris Miller
I finally saw Backrooms! It was so good I really have very few complaints. I think the setting being in 1990 is great and makes total sense for the general aesthetic that the Backrooms emulate and the eerieness, obviously Chiwetel Ejiofor was absolutely fucking fantastic in it, and my biggest praise is it overall is the incredibly incentive use of the backrooms as a metaphor for mental illness. The use as a metaphor for spiralling into depression and a mental health crisis was such an incredible use of the concept and it was genuinely unexpected.
The idea of it as a whole, though, Clark going through a depression brought on by his divorce and his alcoholism and the constant mounting pressure leading to him discovering the backrooms and spending more and more time there and it looks like his life but it's not and it's just off, and it creates a shadow of who he was who hurts those around him as he drags others in with him. And Mary's depression and trauma leading her there in its own way and she's able to get out with support but there's still a piece of her stuck there, mimicking her real life and actions
It reminded me of The Babadook and how that's used as a metaphor for grief and trauma following a death.
One detail that especially stood out to me as really good is the fact that when Cap'n Clark kills Clark, something I see as a suicide metaphor within the context, it's just a tragic death, it's not a noble sacrifice like a lot of movies would've made it. It's not Clark sacrificing himself to give Mary time to escape or to save others or seal away the backrooms, it's just a man rejecting help and giving up and dying. It's not noble or beneficial, it's just a sad thing that happens
It's like riding a psychotic horse toward a burning stable! (The Birdcage, 1996)

It's kinda impressive how The Mandalorian and Grogu managed to have every single hall mark of a Favreau movie. Dialogue that takes way too long to give simple information, voice acting from non voice actors who can't voice act, random pointless references that make no sense within context (are you telling me that the need to carry a walking stick and build little mud huts is in Grogu's fucking DNA???) all with some of the most gorgeous shots you have ever seen in your entire life that literally look like a painting that you want to frame on your wall because they're just that perfect
Once again thinking about the writing in Iron Lung, specifically the fucking life jacket, I love that life jacket so much
The fuckinghshgshahahha life jacket
Okay so, in the movie, when Simon is going through the emergency supplies, he finds the life jacket, kinda stares at it for a second, and tosses it to the side. It's a quick, simple visual joke because given the context the fact that there is a life jacket it comical because what the fuck is that gonna accomplish, and the tossing it aside is just a simple way of communicating that that's both funny and effective
And then, when the electricity fails and Simon needs a light, the life jacket is actually useful for this purpose, it's the only source of light and while Simon may have been able to fix the power without it, the life jacket did save his life in the moment
And then, we get to the end of the movie, Simon is able to save the black box and all the data and float it to the top of the ocean because of the life jacket. People are able to get what is probably the literal most important information in the universe and gives humanity hope for the first time in ages because of Simon and the way he got the info to them was the life jacket that he tossed aside because it was completely useless
Like the life jacket goes from comically useless, to useful for Simon, to being the only way that the last hope for humanity can be reached
It's so well written sjjsbdjsjbajsmdkdjbsksj
The one thing I have is honestly a bit pretentious but there's the use of the sub as a character in and of itself. Specifically in shots like when Simon is going down and getting thrown across the sub, the camera stays still and Simon moves, this is already a really unique and creative way to film it, specifically because in every other depiction of a character getting thrown around like that, the camera follows the character, so the choice to follow the sub implies that the sub is also a character being effected.
'splash of a drop' early animation of a drop of mercury, arthur mason worthington, british c. 1877-95.
I've been watching a lot of clips from Would I Lie To You and I've loved Rob's energy so I went to see what he's been in and he was in Blinded by the Light - a movie I've seen like 4 times
But much more importantly he was fucking Sugar Daddy Ken in Barbie???
