There was a time that Beatrice considered Lilith her best friend; the only person who could understand her life before the OCS and the pressure that had been forced upon her to be something she didn’t want. There was a time, years ago, where they would huddle together in Lilith’s room after dark and simply just talk. They would confess their secrets and make each other feel safe, they would share stories of their childhood, of their parents, of the high-class parties they were forced to attend and be presented at like a trophy rather than a child.

But those times were long gone now. They were only memories. In their place was this: two girls who used to love each other, now standing on two different sides of a war.

Shannon and Ava traded lives. Shannon gave her life, the Halo, to Ava while Ava gave her death to Shannon, both done so unknowingly. Shannon was the heart of the Sister Warriors and she passed that down to Ava. Both were the heart. Did Shannon know everything would break without her? Or did she know her sisters would rally with the new Warrior Nun?

Did Shannon watch as everything crumbled and everything she believed in die? Did she mourn Lilith, both in death and betrayal, for she is was her sister? Did she watch as Mary gave her life for her sisters to live, did she feel relief?

Did Shannon watch as Beatrice and Ava fell in love and denied themselves only to watch them be doomed for a Warrior Nun is never truly theirs? Did she see Mary and herself within them and know how their story would end? As another tragedy. Or did she watch them go through trial after trial and believe they would survive? Believed that they would get to live with each other as Mary and she never had the chance to.

There’s a pressure when Ava puts her hand through her chest. It doesn’t have a weight, nor does it hurt; it feels wrong. Like her body knows that someone else’s hand shouldn’t be there, even though she can’t really feel it. The sensation is similar to static electricity. When the hair on your arms stands up and you’re just waiting to be shocked. Except this time it’ll be a hand through her heart. “Feels weird, doesn’t it?” Beatrice can’t respond. It feels like every muscle has locked in an attempt to force this intrusion out of her. Ava shifts, resting more of her weight on Beatrice’s hips. It also shifts her arm, and the static feeling moves lower. “Like your body can’t quite decide what to feel. Your brain is screaming at you so loudly you can’t even think beyond seeing my hand in your chest. While the rest of you feels like its fallen asleep and is now waking up.” Ava leans forwards, breath fanning across Beatrice’s cheek. “If I were to stop phasing right now, you wouldn’t even feel it. You’d just be gone.” She laughs, the sound the same as it was three months ago. Beatrice would feel less terrified if it sounded off. If this Ava’s laugh wasn’t the same as the Ava’s she fell in love with.

Bonus cause I think it's so freaking funny:

Because laughing about Ava physically holding her heart in her hand -with all those stupid lines about the metaphor- is not as funny as Beatrice seems to think it is right now.

Gonna be buffing this out soon because I wrote this in about five minutes at midnight two nights ago. Just wanted to get a scene down so that I could figure it out from what I have.
