Your brain has resistance towards starting the particular project in the way that you've previously conceived of it. Instead of fighting that resistance, try to change your approach to starting your work. Ie, start with colored pencils on a piece you were doing in gouache, include a new stitch in a crochet piece,
Step one: identify the process
Step two: identify places where something new can be included
Step three: brainstorm new options to fill these spots
Step four: select one or more options and try your piece from this new angle
encourage yourself by asking questions
start with: "What am I actually trying to do right now?"
then try: "What would this look like if it were more fun?" "How would I do it if anything was possible?"
divide into discrete tasks
make the closest or shiniest one literally as small & specific as freaking possible

Hi everyone! just a quick update — I've officially rebuilt my Bubble theme ✨
If you're wondering why it's named Bubble, it's because this theme is all about soft, floaty aesthetics! Everything from the post containers to the hidden menus features fully rounded corners, giving your blog a light, bubbly, and perfectly pastel vibe.
STATIC PREVIEW / GITHUB INSTALL / KO-FI INSTALL
It now fully supports Tumblr's new post format (NPF), so posts should display much more smoothly and consistently across different types of content. No more awkward formatting issues—like those duplicating reblog photosets or missing audio track info! 🙏
Along with that, I also refreshed parts of the theme’s look — nothing too drastic, but enough to make everything feel cleaner, more modern, and easier on the eyes.
Please note that I’ll be removing all old versions of the Bubble theme code, and this will be the main updated version moving forward. If you’re currently using an older version, I highly recommend updating to avoid compatibility issues with newer tumblr post formats. Questions regarding the old version will be ignored, sorry!

🚨 VERY IMPORTANT INSTRUCTION (READ ME OR CRY LATER) 🚨
To make the Pop-up Ask Box work perfectly, you might need to do one tiny thing in the code: Look for the line that says iframe src="https://www.tumblr.com/ask_form/{Name}.js". If the box isn’t loading for you, simply replace {Name} with your actual username. That’s it. You’re a coder now. 👩💻

Creating Tumblr themes: Websites or tools you might not have heard of - Part 2
I made this list a good while back, and I thought I'd share some more! But this is more like courses that I did, websites that helped me improve my programming skills, fun stuff that helped me improve my skills.
moderncss.dev - Modern CSS Solutions for Old CSS Problems by Stephanie Eckles, is brilliant specifically for Tumblr, I think. There's a lot of 'old' solutions floating around tumblr basecodes, code snippets etc, and each topic is easier to digest and follow along.
smolcss.dev - Stephanie also made this, kinda a companion piece to moderncss.
Ben Myers's posts about accessibility - Ben is a God and all these posts are also digestible. I would start out with the one on aria labels.
12daysofweb.dev - there are 3 years worth of 12 mini courses and snippets.
Nesting, Layers, and Container Queries - Yoav Ganbar wrote this article explaining stuff neatly. Media queries are so last year, the control you can get with container queries is exciting. I use a mix og both to get the responsiveness just right for my Tumblr themes. Plain CSS nesting is also kinda revolutionary in how fast and concise Tumblr select meta blocks can be transformed.
Javascript30 - wesbos' free JS course is simply great and its sectioned and there are videos, notes and practical stuff.
wesbos.com - I would basically recommend checking out his other courses and articles as well. there are free ones on flexbox and css grid as well.
HTML cheat sheet - just a nice reminder from time to time when you start out.
A Friendly Introduction to SVG - everything Josh writes is fun and it's where I also learned more about accessible dark mode. Also his mastering of cool effects in his website? endless, I just love clicking around tbh. Josh's own about page is super cool! I adore him and he has taught me sooo much.

the updates tab is toggleable, it has up to 6 updates each with an icon & text

sidebars can be toggled left or right. the extra sidebar is optional - toggle both info & blogs off if you don't want the extra sidebar
(optional) custom description: this is can be as long as you want, it will scroll - leave this field blank if you don't want it
(optional) info section: toggle info off if you don't want this section
(optional) info stats: up to 6 - leave the info 1 field blank if you don’t want this
(optional) info text: leave the info text field blank if you don't want this
(optional) blogs section: up to 4 blogs - toggle blogs off if you don't want this section
(optional) links section: up to 10 links - toggle sidebar links off if you don't want this section
responsiveness
when the browser window gets too small the sidebar(s) will disappear and become toggleable, the sidebar button will appear on the left side of the header

Another Twitter inspired layout. This is an all-in-one page with about, blogroll, tags, and FAQ sections. The code has been heavily annotated, so please go through the code first before sending me an ask!

Features:
Five custom links
Everything is customizable, from the icons to the content and the colors. Customizable options can be found on the :root section of the CSS.
A built-in light-on/off mode that can be toggled by one click.
A header image. The size of your header image is 60% of your screen width x. 250px. The image should resize automatically.
An endless space for practically every section. You can be as detailed or as concise as you like.
Sticky navigation tabs.
A short "currently" tab in the about section, can be about anything you like.
This is a page theme, so blog posts will not be displayed. Please install this through the Add new page link instead.
