games that i think would be great, but no one will ever make:
lord of the ring βfarmingβ sims
like, the ring has been destroyed, peace has been achieved
sadly, the whole war has left ithilien, the shire, moria, minas morgul, the mirkwood, osgiliath, and tons of other places all across middle earth a dreadful mess
which is the perfect setting for having a random unimportant character go βfuck it, now that all the big warriors and heroes have done their job, iβm gonna do mine and plant some fucking flowers hereβ
and like. rebuild all of the things, and repair stuff, and plant flowers, and just. make all those places the story shows only in ruins be proper, real communities again
like: the player characterβs parent is this great amazing warrior, and you justβ¦ never got into that, and now the whole war is over, and everyone is all βletβs celebrate our heroesβ, and gets veryβ¦ the whole thing fantasy does these days, where war against evil is the main focus, instead of actually living good lives?
and itβs like that scene in the beginning of a lot of farming sims, where the player character is sitting in an office and despairing, but instead itβs some sort of feast where everyone is bragging about how many orcs they killed or something, and also trying to recruit for the army, and itβs really terrible
and the player character just goes βnope, i do not want anything to do with this, iβm leaving, this was not what we fought forβ
and gets, like, a shovel and a spade and a broom and maybe a pickaxe, and goes to find the nearest ruins left by the war, and starts tidying up
i understand that a lot of the tone of the books stems from some sort of magic is leaving, and the world is moving onwards, and that is just fate, because itβs now the age of the humans, and you know what?
fuck this. that just sounds ridiculous and some weird missing the good old days bullshit. of course itβll never be the same, but that doesnβt mean itβll never be good again, if weβre all working towards it together
You are a hobbit. Your name is Junior. itβs the anniversary of your dadβs return from the big hike he went on, the time when all the Big Folk come out to have a party, when your Uncle Frodoβs face looks even more like glass than usual. Sometimes heβs cheered up when the littles ask him for stories, and he tells them of places heβs seen, ruins and vast empty plains where only, occasionally, kingsfoil grows.
βWell whyβs that then?β you ask.
βI beg your pardon?β says Uncle Frodo.
βWhy hasnβt anyone gone to perk it up a bit?β you say. Youβve been learning a bit from Dad, who can make anything grow. βWhy didnβt Dad, when you were passing through?β
βWe were on a bit of a schedule,β says Uncle Frodo, and youβre not quite sure what the expression on his face is, but at least itβs there.
βAll right, then why didnβt you stop when you were coming back?β you demand. βYou had plenty of time then. You didnβt know what was going on in the Shire, and you could have at least - at least -β Your mind is too full of all the things it takes to get a good garden growing. βI thought you said Uncle Merry and Uncle Pippin wanted to help Fangorn find his treewife, I thought they said they were going to do something.β
βYou know,β says Uncle Frodo, and now there is definitely a bit of a smile in the corner of his mouth, βYou make a good point. Someone really ought to go and follow through on those promises.β
The next morning, thereβs a pony and cart waiting for you in front of Bag End. You think thatβs a little excessive, until you see the cart is half full of tools and half full of seeds, and you know none of that was Uncle Frodoβs gift.
βBe careful out there,β says Dad, giving you a hug. βYour uncle left you his old sword under the driverβs seat, butβ¦β
βA good whack with a shovel will do for most things,β you finish. βI know, Dad.β
And you pick up the reins and drive east.
I would play the HELL out of a LOTR based game in which you are (player name) Gamgee, setting out to replant the world one flower or fruit tree at a time.Β
definitely
yangyang saying weird shit that makes me question why iβm a yangqi β³ d-1 until yangyangβs 21st!
Among puritan Christians in the 1840s, many believed that material disease was due to material sin. You do bad things and you get sick.
This eventually morphed into the idea that spiritual disease is therefore caused by spiritual sin. I.e. you think bad things, you go insane.
John Harvey Kellogg was an innovator. He sort of blended the two, popularizing a new category; the physiological sin. Eating unhealthy, disrupting the natural balance of the body, is a sin against the natural order of the body as God ordained it, and he punishes us with chronic illness.
Could you please explain the 6th Wave of Innovation???
Alright, I admit, Iβd never heard of this, but I think I get the gist of it now. Hopefully my rambling will make sense to you.Β
First, for everyone else whoβs in the dark, letβs talk about the waves of innovation in general. The waves of innovation, also known as the Kondratiev waves, are cycles of innovation that have occurred approximately since the beginning of the industrial revolution. An example diagram is shown below, with the waves of the cycle broken down into portions of prosperity, recession, depression, and improvement:
It is important to note that these Kondratiev cycles are only a hypothetical explanation of economical cycles in near-modern times - the theory is not fully accepted by all economists. More information about the waves of innovation in general can be found at the following links: ( 1 ) ( 2 )
The sixth wave of innovation then, in particular, is the most recent wave of these hypothesized economic cycles. Most sources seem to agree that this sixth wave is based on the principles of sustainability (also stated as resource efficiency or resource conservation and utilization).Β
Basically, the upcoming technological developments will be based around the fact that resources are finite. This can already be seen somewhat in the current trending research topics in materials science and engineering: renewable/clean energy, recycling, eliminating waste, energy storage, more efficient electronics, more efficient manufacturing processes, and even additive manufacturing (which can help eliminate waste and consolidate parts). People (and scientists) are focusing on using the resources we have efficiently as well as attempting to use less of them to achieve the same results (or even better results, if possible). This is based off of a focus on the environment, but also on the rising costs of raw materials.Β
These cycles are really economic in nature, predicting booms in the economy following technological developments (i.e. innovations), so if youβre curious about the economic theory behind them, I canβt help you much with that.Β
Here are some sources about the sixth wave in particular:Β ( 1 ) ( 2 ) ( 3 ) ( 4 ). There has also been a book written about this topic (The Sixth Wave) if youβre really interested, though of course I canβt verify its accuracy.Β
Let me know if I didnβt answer your question, or if anyone is interested in more information.

cannot believe ya'll waited this long to tell me about the DADDY brand of french sugar
Homer: Is letting someone win at chess sapiosexual bottoming??
Virgil: Does anyone in this godforsaken group ever think before they speak
Horace: No.
Dante: Sounds great to me.
What they donβt understand about birthdays and what they never tell you is that when youβre eleven, youβre also ten, and nine, and eight, and seven, and six, and five, and four, and three and two and one. And when you wake up on your eleventh birthday you expect to feel eleven, but you donβt. You open your eyes and everythingβs just like yesterday, only itβs today. And you donβt feel eleven at all. You feel like youβre still ten. And you areβunderneath the year that makes you eleven.
Like some days you might say something stupid, and thatβs the part of you thatβs still ten. Or maybe some days you might need to sit on your mamaβs lap because youβre scared, and thatβs the part of you thatβs five. And maybe one day when youβre all grown up maybe you will need to cry like youβre three, and thatβs okay. Thatβs what I tell Mama when sheβs sad and needs to cry. Maybe sheβs feeling three.
Because the way you grow old is kind of like an onion or like the rings inside a tree trunk or like my little wooden dolls that fit one inside the other, each year inside the next one. Thatβs how being eleven years old is.
Iβm eleven today. Iβm eleven, ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, and one, but I wish I was one hundred and two. I wish I was anything but eleven, because I want today to be far away already, far away like a runaway balloon, like a tiny o in the sky, so tiny-tiny you have to close your eyes to see.
sandra cisneros; eleven
the only thing stopping me from baring my heart out is bc don't want anybody to know they're walking on eggshells around me everytime
it's okay if you didn't know what that meant to me

Kurt Vonnegutβs Advice on Short Stories
1. Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.
2. Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for.
3. Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.
4. Every sentence must do one of two thingsβreveal character or advance the action.
5. Start as close to the end as possible.
6. Be a sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to themβin order that the reader may see what they are made of.
7. Write to please just one person. If you open a window and make love to the world, so to speak, your story will get pneumonia.
8. Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible. To heck with suspense. Readers should have such complete understanding of what is going on, where and why, that they could finish the story themselves, should cockroaches eat the last few pages.
The greatest American short story writer of my generation was Flannery OβConnor (1925-1964). She broke practically every one of my rules but the first. Great writers tend to do that.

Spend some time with this character in a paragraph or two:
He was parsimonious with a compliment, as though saying something nice to another person cost him too much.
hiiii! first of all, absolutely love your blog. helped me write quite a lot of things! i was wondering if you have a mobile masterlist by any chance? i was just looking for some aus inspiration. thank you in advance! hope you're doing good <3
Hi :)
It makes me so happy to hear that!
I'm not sure what mobile means in that context but I do have masterlists!
I even a special one just for AU ideas :)
Here is also another one for different tropes and my Master Prompt List that also includes a section for different AUs.
Hope you find something good!
