Hello Splatoon Artist. Do you despise drawing weapons? Do you despise drawing backgrounds? Does it happen that every time you try, you quickly come to find out that there are ZERO references of what exactly you need?
Well do I have the blog for you! I’ve just started a Splatoon reference archive for mostly the kind of references you always end up needing, and NEVER FIND because they don’t exist on the net. Right now, it’s planned to be mostly weapon close-ups and position references, as well as stage and stage backdrops and background objects!

I recommend bookmarking this blog instead of following (of course you are free to follow, but the content bursts will spam your dashboard). Ideas, suggestions and submissions are also welcome through the ask box!

So Pearl and Marina's canon heights are given in The Art of Splatoon 2. Pearl is 145 cm (~4 feet 9 inches) tall, Marina is 180 cm (~5 feet 10 inches) tall.
The models are accurate to that scale. So theoretically, we can use this scale to get the canon heights of the other idols.
Therefore going off this scale: Callie and Marie are both 5'2", Shiver is about 5'4", Frye's 5'5", and Big Man is almost 7'3".
im gonna be real with y'all i am pretty sure the reason Scarlet/Violet sold 10M copies so fast is in fact, not due to people on tumblr, and probably due to the fact that it is one of the biggest franchises on earth and many parents go "oh little bobby loves the pokemon!" and do not know let alone give a shit about performance optimization or crunch culture.
also hi sorry for barging in like this but there’s a thought that’s been kind of percolating for me as someone who, despite it all, is still planning on working in the games industry.
if you want to have a real impact on how the industry operates, the only real option is collective action. it’s great and fine if you aren’t comfortable buying games like the new pokemon which are poorly made as a result of crunch culture and profit-first publishing, but understand that that is a PERSONAL choice. in our society we see time and time again that voting with your dollars is an illusion. not buying the new pokemon because you don’t want to support how gamefreak and the pokemon company treat their workers is wonderful, but it does just as much for getting rid of those conditions as going vegan does for eliminating factory farming — that is, it does jack shit.
if you’re not comfortable supporting those things it’s fine and even admirable to staunchly refuse to do so, but do not entertain any illusion that you are doing any work towards changing the conditions that created those problems. like op said, you choosing not to buy the game, and even you going online and exhorting OTHER people not to buy the game for the same reasons, is generally not going to put a dent in the main source of profit that the game was made to pursue — even for games that are aimed at adults! just like people were always going to buy pokemon, they were also always going to buy the new god of war or the new fromsoft or the new whatever. it’s out of your hands.
the only, ONLY way to meaningfully change the wretched, broken industry that produces our video games is to support the workers who run it. this can be frustrating, since while we’re definitely making progress it’s slow and painful and pushed back against at every opportunity by publishers and corporations. but there really isn’t another way. unless you think you can set up an effective boycott across every single global region a game is going to release across, across every language barrier those regions represent, change is just not going to happen at a consumer level.
there are of course ways you can help! listen to the workers’ demands when they strike or unionize (and i mean LISTEN, not just set up boycotts before they ask for one). support them monetarily when they need it through things like strike funds, if you have the means! and if you don’t, that’s alright! have us in your thoughts, and do what you can.
and if you really want to buy that pokemon game or whatever, go ahead. people worked hard on it. people worked REALLY hard on it, and they cared. if you can’t stomach playing something that people were exploited to make, that’s ok too. but we make games because we want people to play them. so unless the workers on a game call for a boycott, probably let people make their own decisions. thanks for everyone who stuck around for this whole rant.
Spawning Grounds diagram for new Splatoon players! Hope this helps! :)
