I love this. I think the pause is the most overlooked part of any art- whether it’s visual space, a hold on a phrase of music or dance, space between words and action in scene, or that breath-held beat in a paragraph or line of dialogue.

zuko was raised in an abusive, manipulative family; kylo had loving, good parents

zuko never murdered anyone; kylo ren has murdered entire planets

all zuko wants to do is gain his father’s love (which he never had in the first place), regain his honour, and go home; kylo ren actively left his home and parents by joining the dark side because??? for funsies, i guess?

throughout book 3, zuko is wrecked with guilt, especially because he betrayed his uncle, the one person who was actually looking out for him; kylo murders his father, who risks his life to try and take his son home, in cold blood. never mind the fact that, although the situations are different, kylo ALSO has an uncle who was with him when he was away from his parents, and kylo betrayed him also while taking everything that luke lived for, and feels no remorse whatsoever - he loses his mind because he wants to kill him in the last jedi but he won’t die

halfway through book 3, zuko desperately wants to be redeemed. he stands up to his father, his lifelong abuser, and declares that he is going to help the avatar take him down, and then does everything in his power to prove that the gaang can trust him; redemption does not even cross kylo’s mind; he murders snoke, who can be somewhat compared to firelord ozai if you are under the delirious impression that zuko and kylo ren are alike, and he does try to convince rey that he is trustworthy - but he has no intention of joining the light side and his promise that he is trustworthy is a false one, considering his ulterior motives
