To the debate community, debate is not just an activity, it is a lifestyle. It’s a necessity , a purpose, our everything. For a lot of us, debate is the place where we have become who we are today. It is a reason to keep living, breathing, trying our best, and prepping. Debate is where we have overcome our biggest fears, where we have met some of the best people to ever grace this earth, where we have had our best and worst moments, where everyone understands each other. Debate is a place where everything can be linked to Global Thermonuclear war and impending mass extinction can be proven. It is a place where we can say, “I’m going to run five minutes of Cap in the 1NR” and everyone knows exactly what we mean. Debating is a socially acceptable way to tell people how ignorant they are. It is an intellectual masturbation between intelligent people. Debate means coffee, no sleep, nerds, and weirdos. Debate is like a bad relationship, it stings and makes us cry, but we keep coming back. Debate is murder in disguise. Debate means waking up later than any sane person ever would. Debate means staying up for 36+ hours straight and drinking gallons of coffee to stay alive. Debate is a passion that connects us all. No matter what language we speak, where we are from, we all have a common love. Debate means getting to hang out all weekend with people who might actually change the world. It is not just about the awards, or the wins, as great as that feels, it is about the bonds that cannot be broken .Debate has taught us to speak our minds, and stand up for what we believe in, when our generation is taught to stay silent, and go along with tradition. Debate is an escape from the real worlds - a place where all we have to worry about is the round we are currently in. Debate is love, debate is life. Because for us, debate is not just an activity, it is a lifestyle.
