Carefree.

I was talking with a friend about soulmate AUs and thought I might share one of the ideas. :D So let’s assume that soulmarks appear randomly, some are born with them, others grow into them, though usually most people get them by the time they’re in their 20s or so. The tattoos themselves are always unique–in design, of course, but most specifically in color. They gleam, whatever type they may be, it’s not a way that ink can replicate (though some have tried). It’s always very clear when it’s in fact a soul mark. So Stan just never got his and he had a lot of conflicted feelings about this, because maybe it’s because he assumed that he would never settle down enough for that (with his lifestyle) or perhaps he literally just didn’t have anyone who would want him for who he is for whatever facet of himself that implies. Who’s to say, but in any case, he just does not have one. Cue canon events, with him losing Ford to the portal. The brand he gets from that fight is gruesome and causes him a lot of grief with trying to let it heal amongst his work at getting the portal going. He hardly pays it any mind other than when it stops him from working. Slowly, it heals. The red flesh begins to scar over, only, it doesn’t heal pink. Or white. It heals back blue. And it gleams.
