he is an Aussie-Collie-Golden Retriever mix.

he is a potential psychiatric service dog in-training (PSDIT), but my best friend regardless of whether he becomes one.

his favorite food is rocks, grass, cheese, credit cards, peanut butter and puppy food.

So im not a regular dreamer outside of horrific nightmares, so it was a bit of a surprise regardless.

I’m in dream world, and there’s like. screens beneath us. if it lights up red, so sad too bad. if it lights up green, you get taken down to choose the perfect physical appearance of a man of your choice.

so I’m getting taken down the Heterosexual Man Creator conveyer belt and I turn to the sad crowd of boyfriend-less people. and the LITERAL Roblox chat box appears and I start screaming:

“NO!! IM A LESBAN!!” (I deliberately misspelled it in my dream to convey my urgency and horror at a Man™️)

I am forced to choose hair for my man so I choose the most gay, female looking option. which is like cosplay Genshin ass hair.

Then I wake up and eat a muffin.

Guys. Important bit of information: I’m not a lesbian. I lean sapphic in my attraction but Im attracted to like 7% of men.

well. still no. no it isn't something you want.

no. no no NO. it adds a sense of community and understanding, as well as ways to manage it with medication and other therapies. it's so helpful for accessibility.

"well then we need to encourage people to get more diagnoses! we need to talk about it online and make it more fun."

please don't. ADHD and neurodivergence is not the 'quirky disorder', it is not something you just say 'I'm so ADHD' when you forget things.

"So everyone with ADHD should and will get the perfect medication!"

no? no! no. ADHD medication can be so difficult, time-consuming, exhausting, confusing and potentially harmful. my first medication made me extremely dizzy and drove me into suicidal ideation. it takes a lot of time to find the right medication and dosage.

"So... people shouldn't get medication because of this risks."

oh my god. oh my god. no. no. so many people have found medication to be so utterly life-changing.

While trying to find some posters and art, specifically women in STEM, I often found the same things over and over again.

The woman are regularly sexualized. Some have slits in their shirts while experiments in are in their hands to display their boobs (???), hair is down, makeup on. Sometimes, there's a man staring at them in surprise or attraction.

When it isn't that, they're often put in a point of submissive/"feminine" poses or expressions. Looks of shock at their experiments, or 'seductive' smiles to the examiner— in comparison to the looks of determination, concentration or pride from the male-presenting in posters. They're either behind the men or the assistants in so many.

That's not even getting into how there is rarely a WOC included, either. 90% of what I found was blonde or brunette haired, blue eyes and white.

That's not to say there isn't any good artwork of diverse women in STEM. (Shoutout to PaulSizer's "SCIENCE BUILDS THE FUTURE" collection in particular.)

I'm saying that we, collectively, need to start promoting the idea that science is only limited by our curiosity and nothing else.

Knowledge is blind to your skin color, your size, your disability, your gender, your sexuality, your nationality. That's the thing about learning— anyone and everyone can do it if given the tools.

I am so tired, as a feminine-presenting individual, being told that a love of science and learning somehow makes me less of a woman or an anomaly. More than tired, I am furious about how we mock women in STEM, discourage or make young girls believe they are less intelligent, less built or less allowed to pursue it. If they want to do such a thing, then of course they have to be some way of feminine while doing it.

Fuck that. And, from the depths of my heart, fuck whoever made you believe it.

To my girls, gays and theys, you don't have to be sexy to be a scientist. There's no job listing that says "must be white, blonde and able bodied" and if there is, it's either a scam or an ad for a Sydney Sweeney stunt-double.
