another new tune from the forthcoming “Whizz Kid Jr.” EP
top half of the box, not enough raisins. bottom half of the box, too many raisins.
XBraniax was the brainchild of former members of Knee Deep In Shit, namely guitarist Zach Howard. They released a fair amount of records and blasted their own version of powerviolence, songs often running together seamlessly and homogeneously. Though they made quite a name for themselves in the rest of the United States and did quite a good job getting their name out there, the name being quite funny and memorable (note: most of the members were straight edge, but this came about more as an accident that their name had two X’s in it). They were (and probably still are) smart guys, braniacs, if you will. They have moved on to different projects since breaking up in 2011/2012. Zach is in a band called Marrow with members from other defunct bands such as Taisto and Live to Kill.
Serpent Men is a funny name just to say- it was started by my friend Louie in 2006 with a guitarist whose name I can’t remember and a drummer who had just moved up from New Orleans by the name of Daniel. This line-up was the only line-up that the band was able to record under in any successful manner due to the tumultuous lives of the two main members of the band, Louie and second-then-only guitarist Brian (I believe they had two other drummers in this time between 2006 and 2008- one being Zak Warmen, the “classic era” Serpent Men, and the Pope Jean-Paul, the “later era”). Some of the stories I have featuring one or both of these two musicians in this band during this time are ones that are almost unbelievable, some of them I will never repeat to anyone but them. However, despite this personal instability, the music was quite good- stenchcore as it always was, downtuned, mid-tempo, the sound of a punk/metal band who smoked a lot of weed, leaving quite the craving for more songs, more shows. However, disagreements led to a break-up that lasted for four years, until the band played a few reunion shows in the area for bands that the members had been friends with while they were originally around. The band is now no longer broken up, but they are relatively inactive, leaving behind a five-song EP that is listenable (they recorded songs in the later era of the band, but mixing/mastering problems led to them being nigh-unlistenable).
As for Disnihil, I have no immediate information about them- I was not at this show, as I was not yet involved enough in the scene to know about this show or these bands. The venue is a house in Grosse Pointe just off the border from Detroit, and to my knowledge, no other shows took place there.
Yo this house was run by a dude named Mike Large. He had a few shows there. He was in a band called Terror Mask with larry from Reaper, Random Axe of Terror and a million other bands. The basement smelled like cat shit. I remember there not being a bathroom there and pissing in the backyard.

I was wondering why Brian was naked.
inept Detroit bowling alley/lounge band never will you hear a group of musicians sounding so happy to be the worst band on Earth as you will on King Uszniewicz & His Uszniewicztones’ … Between King Uszniewicz’s remarkable sax solos (boasting a range of three notes, at least one of them flat), Logjam Lurch Patterson’s guitar features that explore the more painful possibilities of the whammy bar, and vocals that would shame a karaoke night at the drunk tank. from The Mentors to G.G Allin. But 5 tracks of King Uszniewicz (pronounced “you-SNEV-itch”) was all she could tolerate. Sounding like the Strohs-fueled fever dream of a weekend bar-band gone hopelessly, horribly wrong
my new favorite band! Absolute insane!

Keef Herbin, the better half of Detroit rap duo Kissing Cuzzins, has just released his first EP with DJ Ray Krol. It’s chock-full of candy puns, Master P references and graphic sexual imagery that will probably upset my wife.
