A Joyful- A spirit that is an extension of a holiday’s main mascot given form (Cupid, Santa, etc). Only focuses on the good parts of holidays and fends off the Sombers (Like getting gifts). Each Joyful’s appearance is based on which holiday they come from but always bright and cheerful.They awaken when the holiday arrives, and become dormant when it ends, but some will awake early to keep the Sombers at bay and make the holiday amazing. They have weapons to defeat the Sombers based on their holiday, and if they ‘die’ they’ll have to reform, which usually takes until the holiday comes again or longer or quicker (‘Dying’ is called Parting) It’s very rare for Joyfuls to not reform. They live where it’s most fitting for them (A workshop, cake shop, etc)
A Somber- A spirit that is an extension of the holiday's opposite main mascot also given form (Anti-cupid, Krampus, etc). Only focuses on the negative parts of holidays and tries to make the holidays miserable (Like wasting money on gifts). Like Joyful’s they also look like the holiday they come from but more twisted and shadowy like, and can also awaken earlier or stay awake longer, but some rarely awaken on the holiday, they like to plant the seeds of chaos before the eventful day. Unlike Joyfuls, Sombers have powers to fight against the Joyfuls based on their holiday (Wings for Valentine's Day, Spooky stuff for Halloween, etc) and they’ll also have to reformed if they get Parted too, but it’s usually a lot quicker due to the fact the holidays cause a lot of stress for most people. (It’s also common for Sombers to not reform, but the spirits that get made make up for that). They like to live dark and scary places (Shadows, caves, etc)
A Conflicted- An entity that is both a Somber and Joyful, it’s appearance also looks like a Joyful and a Somber mixed together, they represent of the joyfulness and the somberness of the holidays (Like gifts, being given a gift is a joyful thing, but the somberness of it is that it costed a lot) Basically Yin and Yang. Conflicteds are rarely seen, and most spirits find them weird and off putting, since to them they’re an ‘abomination’, so most spirits will call someone a Conflicted as an insult. Most Conflicteds never choose to work for Joyfuls or Sombers, but if they do they’ll fully turn into a Joyful or a Somber. Unknown to most, they’re job is to keep the balance of the holidays, since having a lot of one thing is never good, and will actively try to make sure that Joyfuls and Sombers don’t Part to keep said balance. Unlike Joyfuls and Sombers, once they part they can never reform, and they either have weapons or powers. They mostly live in nature (Trees, plants, etc) or in human houses, no one knows why tbh (Because of the rule, and they like humans).
The lore is that the anti versions of holidays made the Sombers to get rid of the holidays, since they slowly weakened their power after many centuries, and the good versions made the Joyfuls to fight back to keep the holidays strong. The Conflicteds were made by accident when a reforming Somber and Joyful mixed together, becoming two in one body. The one rule they all agree on is that no humans must know of the Spirits existence, or there will be consequences (Conflicteds don’t care though)
