Final Day

The forecast is for 5-10 knots of wind, and two races are scheduled for the last day. Chesapeake boats are vying for top spots in many classes. PHRF two is a particularly good one to watch with Chesapeake boats in the top three slots going in to today.

Racing called off

Racing has been canceled for Wednesday. Keep an eye out in Key West for racers off chains.

Racing is postponed due to lack of wind. We will be posting some video and photos from last night and this morning in about an hour.

The Block Party format for 2012 is a great hit. Chesapeake sailors were well represented at the party and are holding strong on the water. The forecast for today is lighter than yesterday but still solid, so the race committee sent them out an hour early to shoot for three races.

Quantum Racing dominated the 52 class yesterday with Annapolis sailors Greg Gendell, Terry Hutchinson, and Andrew Scott onboard.

Solomons sailor John Edwards has apprently been providing amazing shore support to the Canadian Farr 30 that arrived in Key West needing some help. Among other things, they arrived without a boom and suffered serious engine trouble after being launched. The unconfirmed rumor is that the engine caught on fire.

The Farr 40 Barking Mad had to retire from race two yesterday, because they lost their bowman overboard. Fortunately there were coach boats on the scene, and one was able to rescue the young sailor. He was taken to the hospital, but thankfully the report was that he was going to be just fine.

Tonight sailors who knew Dick Oland will be gathering at the Galleon to celebrate his life.

SpinSheet will be at the tent again tonight and on the water tomorrow to capture the action. Walter Cooper was out shooting for us yesterday in the big breeze and got some amazing shots. Look for those in the February and March issues of SpinSheet.
