Iâm bored and feel like swinging a double-bladed axe at a hornets nest.
Throne of glass > ACOTAR
Iâm a simple woman of simple tastes. I see anti tags I filter them out to avoid the anti content and continue to skip along my merry way in the beautiful field of fandom flowers I curated myself.
I have a 401k a mortgage and a car payment. Iâm a grown adult that doesnât have any more time for petty drama.
i need everyone to get into college football right now i am dying to talk about the texas tech situation. this is the kind of thing that will be referenced for the next 100 years. there will be documentaries and biopics about this.
no one asked but here
texas tech's quartback, brendan sorsby, was investigated for sports gambling. i know sports betting is all the rage right now, but athletes themselves are not allowed to do it. it is Rule Number 1 and it is the highest priority rule for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), who governs all athletic programs at about 1,100 colleges in the US.
the invesitagetion of sorsby revealed that, not only did he place more than 9,000 sports bets when he himself was a collegiate athlete, but 40 of those bets were AGAINST HIS OWN TEAM when he was playing at indiana university. immediately, this threatens the integrity of the sport, and especially because indiana is the hottest team right now as the defending national champion.
the NCAA, which is largely a sham organization these days (they've truly lost their grasp and college athletics are the wild west now) actually enforced their Number 1 Rule and told sorsby his career is over, that he would never play college football again (and, subsequently, that he would never get drafted into the NFL because his college career was cut short).
well, because the NCAA is a husk of its former self, sorsby and texad tech immediately took this to court. MANY athletes have learned these past few seasons that if you can find a judge who's a fan of your team, you can get any NCAA ruling overturned. that's exactly what texas tech did. they filed a suit in Lubbock, where the university is located and where every judge is an alum of texas tech. so sorsby was granted an injunction and will now only be suspended for the first 2 games od the 2026 season (which are alwayd against no-name teams that will be destroyed regardless of who's suspended).
every other school in the country immediately went on the defensive because this is a very clear integretiy issue. so nebraska and georgia (sic em dawgs) released statements saying that all currently-scheduled competitions witb Texas Tech in ANY sport will be canceled and there will be no future schedulings. at least 3 of the major conferences (SEC, Big 10, Big 12) , who account for almost all division 1 sports teams in the country, are also in discussions about cancelling comtests. Texas Tech is part of the Big 12, and there is serious talk of all other teams in the conference shutting texas tech out.
now would probably be time where i say that texas tech is one of the wealthiest programs in college football becaise there is a single billionaire alumnus pouring money into the program with hopes of essentially buying a championship. so texas techs integrity has always been questionable. anyway, the university president put oit a statement that he doesnt care that sorseby violated regulation and that texas tech will sue any school that refuses to play them because it jeopardizes their championship prospects if they're umable to play any games.
this is all just startomg but its so juicy and delicious. the NCAA is going to crumble to dust if they cannot get this injunction overturned. schools like georgia and nebraska have plenty of money so a suit isnt necessarily a concern, but this will absolutely change college football forever. i cant stop reading about it.
update on this: texas tech is claiming that every school who has/is considering cancelling all contests is "afraid" that texas tech is better than them. what's funny about this is that sorsby's stats are average. he is not good enough for this kind of protection. many schools who have already cancelled or are considering it have much better quarterbacks than sorsby. also, texas tech's head coach had said that it's actually ok that sorsby bet against his own team because it "its not murder or assault."
the attorney general of texas has threatened to investigate the Big 12 conference if they sanction Texas Tech
the claim is now that texas texh university just cares so much about brendan sorsbys mental health that they have to sue everyone who calls this an integrity violation. any other school who wouldnt defend an athlete that committed this violation "doesnt care about mental health"
there's another interesting thing that i think has triggered a lot of the utterly undeserved "backlash" against the pitt, and the insane amount of hate posts and smear campaigns occurring (specifically towards dr robby, and also against noah wyle), and this is the fact that some people don't know how to act when they can't consider themselves as Morally Better than media that they watch.
this subsection exists in every fandom, whether it's noticeable or not. the difference is that in most shows, it's easy for these people to feel comfortable and progressive- in fact, most of the time, simply headcannoning a character as gay will make them feel Better than the media, because it will contain no queer characters. making one post about how "it's weird there aren't any POC in this show" will be enough to establish themselves as a pillar of inclusion and righteousness within that fandom (and yes, a lot of the time these posts are correct- why *aren't* there any POC or queer characters in many shows? but this isn't the point of this post).
it'll often be a "one-and-done" thing for them, as opposed to any actual effort to drive inclusion (genuine efforts to drive inclusion will always be important and welcome, as i feel i need to constantly disclaim unless i want people to deliberately misunderstand me), but it will leave them with enough of an "earnt" sense of moral superiority over the media that they can mostly behave normally.
they can't do this with the pitt. why? because the pitt, like it or not, is overtly progressive. in every way that being genuinely woke is a good thing, it's woke. the majority of characters in the show are female, and the majority of those women are WOC. with only minor exceptions, these women are given well developed and carefully crafted storylines even though they aren't the main characters (the only "main" character is robby- it's not intended to be a truly ensemble show, all characters aren't supposed to have the same air time, and it's never pretended otherwise. you're watching the robby show.).
aside from immense casting diversity inkeeping with a realistic healthcare environment, the show draws attention to conditions and social issues like PCOS, sickle cell, trans access to healthcare, anti-fat bias in care, neurodivergence in a medical setting, realistic portrayals of abuse and more. many of these things have been specifically chosen because they receive no attention or funding, or are largely misunderstood even within the medical world. they go out of their way to showcase the most vulnerable among us, and actually do something to hopefully increase the understanding and compassion that these people are treated with.
the show also has numerous canonically queer characters like santos and garcia, and they are unafraid to address this directly and not hide it behind subtext or guesswork. they're gay and you know they're gay, and the show embraces that. we also have overt discussions of characters being christian, muslim and jewish, and there being respect and peace between them all.
so why does this make the backlash and witch-hunting and accusations of mistreatment and racism *worse* than those for a show that has none of the accolades of the pitt? it's because it's so much harder for those who need to feel Morally Better than the show to achieve that status in their minds. suddenly headcanoning a character as gay means nothing- there are actual gay characters. complaining about a lack of POC or women is misplaced- they're represented to a better level than any other show i've seen, and with more engaging storylines. so how can these people get their fix of superiority? how can they feel Better than the media when the media is setting a precedent for inclusion?
it's simple. create problems where there are none, and then pretend to fix them. robby's unconscious bias that is included to be a minor display to the audience that even overtly good men will still be products of their societies, is suddenly inflated by fandom to a degree simply not present in the show at all. suddenly he's an evil, evil misogynist who wants to kill all women, and we must start a hate campaign against him and tell him to kill himself and discredit his mental health! thank goodness! we're Better than the media again now!
something that was simply a poor writing choice that ended up with an actress leaving the show who *happened* to be a woc, is suddenly framed as a moment of intentional, targeted racism that surely tells us that all the shows creators are secret racists who want all POC to die and be jobless! we must start a smear campaign against one of NINE writers and send him and his family death threats! thank goodness, we're Better than the media again now! (of course, ignoring the realities that half the shows writers are woc themselves, and the actress in question said she would return to the set immediately if asked...)
there aren't any actual problems within the show- there's no lack of diversity, no lack of nuance, no lack of research.... and so in order to claim their place as Better and Smarter, people have to invent problems that don't exist. robby isn't evil. supriya was fired in a racist, sexist tirade (if we're getting technical, she wasn't even "fired" at all). none of that is real.
being put in a position where this section of people are no longer able to so easily claim superiority over a piece of media makes them clutch at straws to find a way to gain that place, rather than just accepting that maybe they should be happy they don't need to play that role here. and that maybe they might actually learn something new about other communities if they sat there and actually watched the show, rather than nitpicking it for errors and injustices that aren't there. i know i for one learnt a lot about conditions like pcos and sickle cell, and a lot about institutional medical racism and sexism that haven't impacted me personally as a white man.
so if someone from that section of the fandom is reading this, and has miraculously made it to the end of this post without blocking me, then maybe think about it. you don't need to be Better than the media. you don't need to be Smarter than the media. you just need to watch it, enjoy it, and understand it. and also not send death threats to actors because of things that didn't happen. that might be nice too.
learn to enjoy and praise good media when you see it, okay?

Started anxiety meds and felt really weird. Eventually realized **it was the absence of my heart racing all the time.** insane.
Iâm actually sleeping through the night, and feeling rested??
I can focus at work? I just wrote a 15 page cost analysis to send to the board for approval?? And made and branded 25 slides with notes for the presentation??? THREE WEEKS BEFORE I ACTUALLY NEEDED TO????
(Makes me sound like Iâm on billions, or severance, or one of those other hbo shows where the still look like office stock images)
Anyways.
The fuck. How was I functioning before this. Who let me just. Rawdog life like that.
Watched all the Jurassic Park/World movies this weekend and JW were actually better than I remember? Like theyâre not JP and the first JW is the weakest but I enjoyed them more than I remember.
Owen Grady is Crisp Rats best role. Intelligent, competent, the hottest heâs looked. (Still a trash human being to be clear). He and Bryce Dallas Howard arenât bad together. Not the most mind blowing on screen chemistry Iâve ever seen, but significantly better than the worst Iâve ever seen. Honestly I love a rugged, good looking, competent man who is absolutely gone for his woman and Grady was just đ with Grace
JW is the weakest, but it gets better with Fallen Kingdom and Dominion. I think Fallen Kingdom is my favorite of the three.
I know the final auction/chase/fight got a lot of hate, and I get it. Itâs kinda hooky. But I read a lot of the trivia about it, and the writer said they were going for Frankenstein and a little gothic horror at the end with the hybrid. And I can see it. Was it perfectly executed? No. But it was different, instead of other remakes rehashing story beats. In this day and age of corporations running amok JW feels more realistic to me. If a company could make dinosaurs theyâd absolutely make them into weapons and sell them to the highest bidder and keep trying to control nature and almost destroy the world over and over.
JW Rebirth however is trash.

Wasnât even aware there was a season 3 of Good Omens until I logged on to Amazon today to watch Jurassic park.
Had seen zero marketing, no trailers, nothing about it.
How very Sherlock season 4 of them.
Another day of liberally using the block button in fandom spaces.

Not that anybody asked, but I think it's important to understand how shame and guilt actually work before you try to use it for good.
It's a necessary emotion. There are reasons we have it. It makes everything so. much. worse. when you use it wrong.
Shame and guilt are DE-motivators. They are meant to stop behavior, not promote it. You cannot, ever, in any meaningful way, guilt someone into doing good. You can only shame them into not doing bad.
Let's say you're a parent and your kid is having issues.
Swearing in class? Shame could work. You want them to stop it. Keep it in proportion*, and it might help. *(KEEP IT IN PROPORTION!!!)
Not doing their homework? NO! STOP! NO NOT DO THAT! EVER! EVER! EVER! You want them to start to do their homework. Shaming them will have to opposite effect! You have demotivated them! They will double down on NOT doing it. Not because they are being oppositional, but because that's what shame does!
You can't guilt people into building better habits, being more successful, or getting more involved. That requires encouragement. You need to motivate for that stuff!
If you want it in a simple phrase:
You can shame someone out of being a bad person, but you can't shame them into being a good person.
Fun fact, that was literally what inspired me to make this post!
*banging on your window*
guys guys, omg. The laughing into the kiss??? Him leaning his head onto her shoulder??? Iâm screaming.
