                                                              HE LAUGHS, a full-bodied sound, rich, deep, & watches as she walks to the door. The joy she ignites is evident in his eyes as he shakes his head.   ‘It is good, then, that his visits are always temporary. He’ll only be here for a day, then it’s back to Coruscant - he’ll be out of our hair.’   He pauses, growing serious.   ‘We cannot ignore that he is good at his job, & that the galaxy is growing so chaotic it is difficult to have the voice of such a small planet as ours be heard amid all the noise of the Republic. He deserves to know that he is appreciated…’

     He snaps himself from the more dramatic, dour reverie & smiles gently at his daughter.   ‘Go ahead, I will join you in a little.’

     And as soon as she’s left, he busies himself getting ready,   ( he insists on doing it himself, with a valet allowed only for special occasions such as official dinners or audiences with those from off-planet )   his understated but elegant wardrobe is easily donned. It’s not long before he’s stepping out into the garden, glancing this way & that, searching for Rey.

                    YOU  HUFF,  not  because  you  disagree,  but  because  you  regard  him  with  such  AFFECTION  that  the  sardonic  smile  upon  wind-chapped  lips  is  warm  and  loving.     your  father,  the  GREATEST  OF  HEROES,  the  dragon-slayer  of  your  youth,  he  and  he  alone  could  dissipate  what  nightmare  clung  to  you  (  you  dream  of  SAND  sometimes.  of  loneliness  &  hunger  &  fear.  it’s  a  feeling  you  cannot  quite  grasp,  like  the  fragrance  of  a  mother  you  may  have  held  in  infancy,  so  similar  to  the  one  of  the  flowers  papa  had  planted  in  a  pot  on  his  windowsill  )

                        you  look  at  him  now,  all  SOFTNESS  AND  SMILES,    fingers  having  already  woven  together  the  beginning  of  a  flower  crown  whilst  you  waited  &&  when  he  approaches,  you  push  yourself  upwards  from  the  stone  bench,  close  the  distance  between  you  in  two  long  strides. 

"End of the line, cool breeze."

"All right! Let's do this, people! And... animals! And... weird faceless puppet creatures!"

"Oh. That's problematic."

                 the  shock  steals  away  the  breath  from  your  lungs  --  it  has  you  momentarily  staggering  &  stumbling,  managing  to  catch  yourself  just  in  time  before  you  actually  COLLIDE  with  the  ground.         (  be  there  tears  in  your  eyes,  child  of  the  nightsky  ??  quiet  your  heart,  for  family  is  not  the  one  who  BIRTHED  you,  but  the  one  who  FOUND  you  !!  )

 the  way  rey’s  face  lights  up  with  warmth  &  happiness  does  not  go  unnoticed.  BB-8  rocks  forward  ever  so  slightly,  clearly  pleased  by  the  reaction  she  had  come  to  predict  after  witnessing  the  phenomena  on  numerous  occasions.  to  bestow  another  with  a  gift  is  a  sign  of  endearment.

 she  beeps  with  a  nod  of  her  head.  she  remembers  she  had  seen  a  desert  flower  in  the  fallen  walker  on  jakku.

              “  i  LOVE  it  ---  ”  nimble  fingers  take  the  flower  from  the  droid  so  you  may  place  it  behind  your  ear,  while  your  free  hand  gives  her  an  affectionate  pat  on  the  head.  FRIENDSHIP  &  GIFTS  are  things  which  have  lacked  from  your  life  ever  since  infancy  and  now  you  cling  to  every  little  motion  with  ardent  hunger.

The rebel pilot looks at Rey taken ABACK by these fighting words. Of course, it’s all in jest, but he takes his position as the best very seriously. Hands settle on his hips as his head cocks to one side, an eyebrow raised slightly, “Pretty STRONG words coming from a girl who’s been flying for…how long was it?” Poe teases right back, accompanied by a playful (but cocky) smirk. “Y’see, I say I’m the best pilot because I KNOW that I am – it’s that simple,” he adds confidently with a chuckle, “I’m almost offended that you’d question me like this, Rey – I thought we were better friends than that.” 

              “  i  must  remind  you  that  i’ve  been  FLYING  for  a  very  long  time,  thank  you  very  much  !!  just  never  OFF  PLANET  .  .  .  ”    the  upturn  of  your  nose  you  try  to  copy  from  what  you’ve  seen  the  GENERAL  doing  when  offended  ;  it’s  all  posh  elegance  you  do  not  possess,  given  away  by  the  quirk  of  your  lips.  it’s  not  long  before  you  dissolve  into  a  fit  of  giggles.
