tumblr, I need your thoughts!

I post about my research sometimes, so a lot of my followers probably know that I’m a PhD student and I somehow managed to convince my advisors that Tumblr was a reasonable thing to write my dissertation about.

My goal with this project is to get away from the constant arguments over whether or not social media is “bad” for teens by writing about the diversity of young people’s experiences in a specific context – in this case, Tumblr fandoms.

Over the next couple of months, I’m hoping to talk to around 20-30 people about their experiences with this site. If you’re between the ages of 13 and 20 and consider your Tumblr a fandom blog, send me an ask or say hi on chat if you’d be willing to share some of your thoughts.

I’ll be doing this entirely over the Tumblr chat system so you won’t need to reveal any personal information. I’ll also keep your URL private when I write about anything we talk about.

I’d also be really grateful if people could reblog this post. I’ll be posting this notice a few times to try and catch people who are online at different times of day, so sorry if you end up seeing it more than once.
