Seeing him like that breaks my heart. He came back just to get his soul crushed all over again 💔

I don’t know…I just feel this tremendous grief on his behalf. I want to relieve him of that burden. To reassure him that he did his job—that he did all he could. That his legacy is still intact. That even though this Germany side was held together by duct tape and plasters, he still came back to try and perform one more miracle. It can’t have been easy either—all that pressure resting on knees held together by screws and sheer force of will, as well as shoulders that still refuse to buckle under the ever-advancing threat of age. We won’t forget that. He said once that he hopes people will remember him as a good goalkeeper, and we will. This is your legacy, Manu. This is how the world will remember you:
