i've said this before but it bears repeating. i saw a comment on one of the polls that really bothered me. the commenter argued against voting for one of the characters on the basis that fandom hatred towards her was due primarily to racism and not to misogyny, as though it couldn’t have been an intersection of both. while i don’t think this person was trying to be dismissive, i really dislike this sort of argument. this is the kind of rhetoric that serves to obscure the intersections of misogyny and racism that women of color face and imply that misogyny towards white women is somehow more recognizable as misogyny because white women don’t also face racism.
