it's odd to me how much people love Fern but seem to dislike have way less grace for Jax, they both say rude out of pocket shit, they're both cluster B-ish w/ disorganized attachment, and at least Jax didn't intend to do the thing, Fern did. Just shows the benefits of puppeting a face the audience trusts, I guess. tbh even Pomni's stubborn refusal to let him fester and his duplicitous rejection of that rings pretty true w/ Fern and his foil.
I wonder if AT were to air now I'd see videos w/ thumbnails of Fern's feral demon face with "DOES HE DESERVE TO BE REDEEMED? (NO!)" written in impact font across the top.

Thank you <3 & it depends on the type of anatomy work but before all that here's some of my favorite figure drawing books and figure drawing sites. Cross contour drawing is my #1 tip always, I even keep a magazine on hand to do them directly on the pages when I've got some spare time.
If you're looking to do 1:1 detailed anatomy studies/foundational studies I'd say you want spatial reasoning exercises because that's a lot of memorization (bone structure, muscle groups, fat pads, etc.) and if you can correctly visualize and rotate something in your mind then that lessens the load. Break down each part of the body into planar schemas, it'll help to "feel out" the underlying structure of a limb or the face (which also helps w/ value studies.) The more you do this the stronger you develop your own shortcut shapes/muscle memory -> the less reference you have to use.
If you're looking to up your gestural figure work remember that we're all a constantly moving collection of malleable shapes and things won't always look "right" if you follow all of the rules of anatomy in a 2D space as a matter of focal distance. A dynamic drawing with an unrealistic/extreme action line will always turn out more interesting than a rigid but anatomically correct one. Adding a line that isn't there or exaggerating a feature is something you can always undo/erase later if it looks bad.
A quick study you can do every day is drawing a water balloon sitting on a cube or other geometric shape, tilt it in different directions a little or a lot, imagine it's full of sand or foam instead, how does that change the drawing? Exaggerate it, and change the line weight to see how that shifts the implied movement/mass. This translates to fat/muscle moving over an armature and keeps your bodies from feeling stiff.
Hope that can help a little, it's hard to cliffsnotes this biz :p
(keep in mind that you might be a hands-on learner vs a visual one- this is a thing in art, too and why tracing studies are so helpful. If you're struggling to draw something try pulling it into a 3d space, like drawing lines on your own hand to better understand how to draw fingers bending. I used to struggle with noses/feet until I tried making them out of clay, then suddenly it clicked for me and I could draw them ez pz.)
Is Fern or Finn Narcissus or is it both of them? I'm not super clear on that, sorry.
Fern-- their Finn parts specifically. Nemesis's curse would only take effect if Narcissus ever came to know himself, and Finn #1 is doomed by coming to "know himself." His life then is simply a reflection of Finn #2's, soul sequestered in a blade's quillon and acting as a living mirror before being reborn as a plant- his story mirrors the myth pretty beat-by-beat.
In a way the answer is both of them. Fern's the 16 year old blonde warrior that withers away to a curse that stops him from tearing himself away/moving on from his own reflection and Finn is that reflection.

Fern had a lot of cursed object siblings, the fandom should give them freed forms imo.

The Grass Wizard would probably use animals to make his demon infused grass items, whereas Hunson uses men and mutants/monsters to make Nightosphere citizens. People can choose to be reborn as demons (issue 51) & their souls aren't a slapped together mix of roadkill like my grass demons are and so they're far more emotionally stable. Nimblewill doesn't have the resources/power Hunson does in order to create stable living beings.

KY AU Excerpts:
Fern settles against the trunk securely, turning to Finn with a grimace. “Sorry I hurt you. I didn’t have much of an opening to pry that thing away from Phoebe without getting turned.”
Finn sits on a thick branch above him and surveys their surroundings, watching things slowly morph. “It was an accident,” he shrugs him off and exhales deeply. “… so.”
Fern sighs, eyes lowering. “So.”
“Is that what you really look like?” Finn asks, hesitant.
“No, glob no,” Fern coughs out a self deprecating laugh. He fidgets nervously. “I guess technically that’s my body, but I’m still glommed onto your blueprint. That was kind of like… what I’m made of.”
“I thought you were made of plants?”
“My vessel is — but my vessel was the sword. That’s just— you, now.” Fern holds his hand out and looks at the woody muscles and exine bones shifting under his skin as he curls and uncurls his fingers. “What you saw were the animals my dad sacrificed to summon and bind me. We’re created from strong emotions and death, dude.”

“Sorry, did I get you in trouble, kiddo?” Hunson smacks Fern on the back as they begin walking to the diner. “Lemme pay you back, how's about it? Aren’t you sick of being stuck as one of that hack’s rush jobs?”
Fern tips his head back and chews his lip. “You mean you’d finish me?”
“If it’s what you want. I’ve met others of his and they all complain about his shoddy slapped together work. You’ve got Finn’s brain all up in there, though, so it might not be that obvious.” Hunson’s posture stiffens. “That man makes my people look like barely sentient animals,” he spits. “Sticking demons in toasters, for shame.”
Fern glances to his other nervously, watching him chat with Jake as they lag behind with purposefully paced distance.
“It’d be nice to not be horse shaped,” he mutters sardonically out of the corner of a tight frown.
Hunson pauses and lets out a gruff chuckle. “Is that all?”
“Are you offering to remake me? I’d just like the cracks filled.” He holds his hand up. “Not to offend your work—“
“No problem-o. Not offended over here at all,” Hunson fans himself mockingly with his fingers.
“Dad,” Marceline inserts herself between them, floating low to send her father a half lidded look of disapproval, “if you mess him up I’ll—“
“Honey! What do you take me for?” Abadeer holds his hands up, placating, shyster smile spread over his fangs.
Finn sidles up next to Fern and taps his shoulder hesitantly. “He’s not gonna hurt you, right?” he asks with drawn up, worried brows.
“No,” Fern shakes his head, “a lot of my siblings have been fixed by him. They just… usually have to, uh, pay for it.” Finn makes a face and he clarifies, “soul signatures. Deals.”
“Ah.” Finn clears his throat uncomfortably.

explanation on the refining and freeing of half-made/unauthorized Grass Wizard demons
“Well, Simon, cross your fingers.” Finn pats him in two heavy thumps on the back. “Why, uh. Why’s it seem like you’re gettin’ the stink eye, man?” he asks his other, head on a swivel as the hench-demons bustle around, sneering at [Fern] with distaste.
“They can smell my humanity,” it shrugs. “And I’m not one of his, so.”
“Demon racism,” Jake snorts and belts out an absurd laugh.
Fern sighs and stands, brushing itself off. “Come on,” it pauses and turns to Finn to stare at him critically, “no hero junk. Being an altruist sap is illegal here and I’m not paying a fine because you can’t help yourself. No apologizing, no thank-you's, no nothing.”
It leads them down the hall into the lounge- a cozy alcove set into the east facing side of the castle, bar stretching along the balcony attended by a demon with small bare breasts, bushy black mane and a ram skull, delicate chains draped over its large horns clinking as it dries martini glasses. Uncomfortable looking couches are set in a conversation pit to the right, large blue fire blazing in a chimney of steel sat in its middle. Jake whoops excitedly at the sight of a pool table, racking the balls and taunting Simon into a game.
“Those probably contain punishments… just FYI,” Fern informs him. He recoils, dropping the cue ball and it titters softly as it settles at the edge of the railing to watch.
“Did you spend a lot of time down here?” Finn asks, looking out over the wide crag of inner Hell.
“HW made me, it was part of the process. I was convinced I was just some cursed human.” It shrugs deeply. “Couldn’t deny what I was if my body did—“ it holds its arms out and curls its talons, “this as soon as I stepped through the portal.” It nudges him lightly, nodding toward the bar tender. “Even if I’m not red.”

I've gotten mixed answers on whether or not Yew counts as an OC, and now the group text is fighting about what makes an OC an OC. (oops) She's hardly a character- more like a vehicle for exposition about demon HC stuff. That's what makes her not an OC to some of my friends, "they need backstories," but to others "you made her so she counts."

Naw, I don't rly have OCs to use for it. (Is Grove/my human grass demon an OC? do Fern/Fennel's demon forms count? idk)
I've overheard my studio kids complaining amongst themselves about the rules pertaining to using references changing, it sounds like artfight staff kind of bungled things up so maybe not participating is the right decision lol.
